Endhiran: contains dancing and robots.

Gantz: contains manga adaptation.

Blackthorn: contains Butch Cassidy.

Redline: contains Initial D + Five Star Stories mashup.

13 Assassins: contains samurai.

Vampire: contains a shitload of triggery content.

The Phantom of the Opera (1925): contains silent film acting.

What I've managed not to do thus far is review the actual horror films (not that they were all that horrifying XD;).

Mawaru Penguindrum: I'm... halfway through episode 4? Certainly it looks gorgeous - the music is great, even. My mind isn't blown yet, but I can admit to having absolutely ZERO idea where the setup is headed. These days, that in itself is worth something.

xxxHolic 17-18: if CLAMP ended it right after this it must've been pretty abrupt. o_O Anyway I'd stopped reading just before the Important Shiz went down and only heard about the consequences, so I was unprepared for Watanuki swanning around in his gilded prison occasionally giving a heavy-lidded mysterious look over his kimono-clad shoulder. Like, seriously? The original settei wasn't moé enough, is that it?

Confused arousal aside, the resource shuffle came across as promising - for one, I like Kohane better than Himawari ahaha. It's cute how Doumeki and Watanuki subscribe to this thin fiction that they are not gay married.

Big snowstorm Sunday. Okay, one tells the exchange students from Caracas or Bangalore, now you've seen the real thing.

DJ RAN - ANOTHER KIND OF BLUE
Otherwise known as "Ran's Beatport chart (March 2007)"

01. Pantha Du Prince - Butterfly Girl (Sten Version)
02. Ada - Cool My Fire (I'm Burning)
03. PLEJ - Blue (A Different Shade Of Blue Remix by Akufen)
04. Isolée - Can't Sleep All Night
05. Markus Nicolai - Mr. Big Star (Time Too Short To Finish The Mix Mix)
06. Jesse Somfay - The Wind Blew Past As We Shut Our Eyes (Part One)
07. John Daly - Sky Dive
08. Lawrence - Along The Wire (Superpitcher Remix)
09. John Tejada - The End Of It All
10. Gui Boratto - Beautiful Life

BONUS 1: Ada - Cool My Fire (the slow version with lyrics) | The Whitest Boy Alive - Cool My Fire (acoustic cover by Erlend Øye)

BONUS 2: Beautiful Life: video )

The one that never shows up as promised because it keeps changing (apart from songs with 'blue' in the title due to in-joke - well XD;). But Kristin asked again so I grabbed the last "code freeze" that was any good. If you don't have "Along The Wire" or "The End Of It All" by this point, dude, I dunno, you must not like my music or something. It's okay, I'll live. I've never posted "Beautiful Life" but consider it the finishing move on that combo. As well as Speicher/K2-style techno Gui Boratto does commercial trance type stuff, not on Kompakt; at such times he aspires to the firm of Sumner, Hook, Morris, & Gilbert.

Regarding the others: "Can't Sleep All Night" is probably the most straightforwardly electro-house Isolée's ever been, and it's still got all these sounds. The Ada and Markus Nicolai tracks are classics. Tip re: "Butterfly Girl" came from Tobias Thomas, as well as mix titling methodology, but where would we be if we couldn't steal from our betters.

To borrow from the meme(?) going around, you will enjoy this if you like: that moody German techno cover of Oruha's song, Télépopmusik, "Halcyon + on + on"

Why come up with original content when one can meme? XDD

Comment here and ask me ANYTHING about any fandom I'm involved in/have been involved in. Controversial or innocent, silly or serious, ask and you'll get my honest opinion on the subject [to the best of my knowledge/ability].

General fandom questions are also allowed, but nothing about actual people IN fandom, please.
Well, you can ask, but I might ask you to take it to chat or something. XD

And:

Give me two characters from different fandoms you know I'm familiar with, and I'll give you a dialogue happening between the two of them. Without justifying how the crossover would work, how their worlds clashed, or how they could even meet each other. Just a silly crossover conversation with no backstory, for fun.

In other news, guess when my Finance mid-term (25% of final grade) is? Award yourself a cookie if your answer was, on the day of the SSBB submission deadline. With an Organizational Behaviour case study (30%) to hand in the day before, and an Operations Management assignment (10%) the day after. It looks like the majority of stories will come in just under the wire, and there probably aren't enough beta readers to go around. DOOMY FEELINGS. XD
petronia: (another one of those days)
1) Inner CLAMP character meme: I won't repost the whole thing because I want to put other stuff in this post, but I got Seishirou 67%, Watanuki 65%. XD "Secretly heartless, but cooks." Then I took it again and got a tiebreaker between Seishirou and Kurogane. I would guess this comes as a surprise to exactly no one.

2) I probably don't need to say this but it occurred to me on the metro yesterday and - you all know that Eclair out of Ouran anime isn't named after a dessert, right? Eclair Tonnerre, lightning and thunder. ^^;

3) I don't know if adding to the flood on [livejournal.com profile] fst is the responsible thing to do at this point (I've had to take it off default view orz), but maybe I'll post those double A-sides so to speak? I have about 3-4. I'm also mentally owing about five detailed album reviews with mp3s, and innumerable book reviews.

From the xxxHolic reading guide, new edition. Got to get some stuff done but I'll translate the second half later tonight and unlock the post. I haven't even gotten to the really crackish parts yet. XD

[1] Yeah, right.

[2] Wh,why would anyone think this?

[3] And I trust you'll keep that in mind the next time someone comes up to you in the supermarket and is like, "WHY GOD WHY THE EYEBALLS!?"

[4] I have finally figured out what is disturbing about this. If Araki thinks he knows Nekoi's art well enough to guess she does the drawing for xxxHolic, it would imply he's read her other works. Like Wish. And Gohou Drug. ...Yeah.

[5] Look at it this way, at least he didn't say "I was watching Mel Gibson's The Passion and thought, you know what would be awesome?"

[6] I have no comments on this entire exchange, it stands on its own merit.

For Kristin, who requested DJ Ran in Montreal. The flist is large, so if you have no idea what that's about: for the past couple of years [livejournal.com profile] canis_m and others have been tossing around a WAFFy Clover AU in which Ran is a techno DJ and Gingetsu bodyguards or otherwise sticks around, and they travel (details vary depending on who's writing; there's been very little attempt at background coherence XD). There's an aesthetic correspondence... but mostly it's about t3h cute.

Related fic, art, and mixtapes. )

I'm missing stuff. There was at least one with popstar!Suu and producer!Ran. XD; Link me if you're better organized. Anyhow other people fic and I... post mp3s, but this time I was told to write the akchul DJing bit. So this isn't really a story, it's a description of a minimal techno night as they occur in these parts. I found I had to base myself on something so I used what I was listening to, namely Michael Mayer's Immer 2 (SCSI-9, "Morskaya" -> Jesse Somfay, "Lying in a Bed of Mist"), but very inaccurately.

Based on a MUTEK venue, though it could be anywhere really. 881 words. )

I'm doing a techno mix too, not a chillout one. ^^; Maybe I should get permission and repost everything to my [livejournal.com profile] minimalicious account? I just had the idea of turning it into Ran's fake blog à la [livejournal.com profile] yuushidiaries only with moar mp3s, but I couldn't write it, Kristin would have to write it. At best I'd obtain and abuse Fruityloops for great veracity.
petronia: (obey the DJ)
Believe it or not CLAMP broke even on points this week - uke-fying Kakyouin just about made up for by handing Sumeragi Subaru an image song produced by John "Jellybean" Benitez (fittingly it's all ancient history). Maybe even a little in the black, for bringing back Fuuma.

Hurray, Earth will not be destroyed today

There is no extended 12" Arthur Baker remix of "Who's That Boy?". Tragic, I know.
petronia: (heart's desire)
To distract me from the new chapters of Bleach and Viewfinder I just dled but can't read--

Name me a character or pairing and I will ramble on about him/her/it/them. (Although if it's someone/something I've never given any thought, I will probably just say "I've never given that any thought." XD) The other one I've seen going around is "Ask any of my characters a question and I will answer", which is also OK for today's purpose! ♥

EDIT -- meme closed. I've still got a couple left I shall answer shortly. XD

Now that I consider it, it pleases me to think of "Happiness" as intended as a microhouse cover of Oruha - as it might be of Brian Eno or Kylie Minogue. Herr Spitcher may sample and vary as he pleases; the fragment he utilises will do. One has not heard the original, but everyone has heard the original. Schumann might have notated it innere Stimme.

Still, to file under 'Fact Trumps FST'. XD

Mikhail remarked on TRC!Oruha's quality of apartness; one might believe her to be a "fellow traveller", though nothing is implied. I find in writing that Oruha ("the fictional character of Oruha") has the same aptitude for intertextual infiltration as Yuuko, though recognition is often unaccountably delayed - that's her in my Chiaki-centric Mirage piece, but I only realised it much later. With Yuuko one may point to canon. Oruha is a Greek chorus of sorts as well. But all that is a red herring: witness, say, Sherlock Holmes...

Third story in R.A.M., "From the Empire". Realpolitik! Now that's more like it. Also, in a stunning departure from t3h Real World history, the Russian upper nobility appear to be feudalist bloodsuckers who prey on the toiling peasantry and proletariat. It is pretty genius because I was wondering how the Empire worked in practical terms, and the book was like "one word: boyars" and I was like "...oh, that's all right then."

It's funny because it's totally a James Bond setup, except Abel kind of fails in the role of James Bond.

Each chapter/short story in Trinity Blood begins with a Biblical quote, like as not something a bit weird like Esther or Nehemiah, to which in my current hurry to get on with the story I've not been paying much attention. However the quote at the beginning of this story is Ethiopean Enoch 10:2 (which the Internet edition I just googled up sez is actually verse four - "Then explain to him the consummation which is about to take place; for all the earth shall perish; the waters of a deluge shall come over the whole earth, and all things which are in it shall be destroyed") which is sort of... whoa. XD There is Roman Catholic Apocrypha and then there is hardcore. However I must report sadly that Latin doesn't katakana-ize better than any of the modern languages that have sprung from it.

Hmm, I think I'm going to go and find Mirage 15 so I can summarize it. XD Might not be done tonight, though, depending.

In other news, I delayed leaving work today waiting for raw scans of Bleach 178 to surface, and just now it actually crossed my mind to wait up until [livejournal.com profile] lcseifhoan finishes reading Tokyo Babylon vol.7 and posts about it. XD I should stop denying that fandom is basically my life. (Sarah has managed to avoid all knowledge about the TB/X continuity, down to points like "What's with Seishirou's eye in this scan?" and "Who and what is a Kamui?" She's been reading TB this week at a rate of 1-2 volumes a night, and posting her thoughts and speculation accordingly. The comment threads are hilarious due to the sheer contorsionary non-spoilering non-stupid-eyeball-joke-making willpower on display. I think it's a truism in shoujo fandom that spoilering someone for TB/X is the fastest ticket to Hell one can ride, except there are so few people who aren't spoilered for it that the point is nigh moot. XD

...Speaking of which, nobody tell me what happens to them in TRC. I will find out myself.)
