Peace Maker manga was in the shop!
...The rest of Prince of Tennis was not. >_> <_< As flies to wanton boys are we to the manga gods. To hell with it, though, I'm reading the fic come fire or high spoiler.
That is, as soon as I am able to mark a pause in my ear-steaming fangirl mania over Peace Maker. Dear, dear saints alive. It's just as well I didn't bother to set up phone post this afternoon, or you'd all be afflicted with my hyperventilations in real time, real sound. Or maybe all you'd hear is choking noises, as I run out of superlatives and am reduced to flapping.
I suspect I should get my act together and make some detailed fannish posts on this that and the other (I kind of regret not blogging all my crackpot impressions as I wended my way through the GB anime, y'see; so many st00pid Vagrant Story / Kenshin animation team jokes not saved for posterity), but aaaaarrrrgggghhhh. *flaps* I refuse to believe it's Kurono Nanae's first manga, period: no acolyte is this well-versed in the nittou ryu of Angst and Crack. *deep breathes* Right. Will go watch anime now.
She says the pigs are historical, so there.
Oh, P.S., other manga I got are Saiyuki Reload (so I can make sure I understand XD) and this other pwetty thing called Youko-Den. As in fox spirit. However, it is more precisely 妖狐伝義経千本桜。 Ohohohohohohoho~ *ojousama laughter trailing off into distance*
P.P.S. Is anyone I know currently reading a proper shounen manga that is universally acknowledged NOT to have teh ghei, either textually or subtextually? I need to recalibrate my brain. Thank you.

Date: 2003-11-14 10:23 am (UTC)I don't know; as people have said, if you're proficient you could gay it up, but it's one of those that leaves me with absolutely no desire to do so. Then again, I suppose that's not saying much, no?
There's always gangster manga, which I've started to have a disturbing interesting in, but that's really more seinen than shounen.
Old shounen that Has Not The Gay: Gasaraki and Gunnm, she says, pimping her favorites.
Or there's the Eva manga. A ha ha ha!
And then again, if you want properly masculine no-hint-of-teh-ghei comics... why manga?

Date: 2003-11-14 12:18 pm (UTC)And I was following it, and then NaNiKoRe happened. I'm only about up to Volume Six or so. But, so far: there's not that much metaplot, fairly standard mystery-solving shounen psuedo-occult wank. Or psychic wank.
There's room for gay, I guess, but it's not at all blatant.
Oh. And, of course, there's always Leviathan, which is worth it for the sheer WTF?!!!!! factor. If you read Leviathan, I guarantee within like a week you'll wind up reviving the pitas just to have a Kouhei layout. He's that wonderful.

Date: 2003-11-15 12:32 am (UTC)Anyway, it's shounen bordering on seinen, so all the male characters seem blatantly str8. How about Tenjou Tenge? That's seinen, the art is great, and it doesn't beat you over the head with gay, though it does with the cheesecake while having a disturbingly interesting and good plot. (Seconding the idea about reading seinen, if you don't want to get into the gay big time.)
