I'm posting the music video from that Drew Barrymore and Hugh Grant romcom. Because nothing says hyperreality quite like FAKE EIGHTIES.

Latest round of [livejournal.com profile] drabble_trade went up yesterday. There doesn't seem to be much guessing this time, so I will link and wait for people to confess. :D

Written for me:

Basch and Penelo
Fai and Sakura
FMA!Supernatural, by [livejournal.com profile] arboretum (to go with [livejournal.com profile] ladysisyphus's Fatal Frame!Supernatural and VS!Supernatural. IT'S LIKE A LITTLE BLACK DRESS.)

What I wrote (for [livejournal.com profile] lazulisong, reposted):

Vincent/Reeve, vaguely DoC-era, 100 words. Has the potential to be way longer except I had only 20 minutes left before deadline. XD; )

Larsa is sneaky like a ninja, 1451 words. Um... yeah. )

...It's not so much a short story as it is a chunk of game novelisation told from Larsa's POV, and as such goes on and on and on and WHY IS IT NOT STOPPING. I blame Lois McMaster Bujold.

Thanks for the birthday wishes, everyone! :D

Yesterday: had yoga class for the first time in two weeks, ow. I made myself get up and go for a walk this afternoon just so I wouldn't stiffen up in the form of my computer chair.

Last weekend (birthday): I forgot to mention T and Lo got me this astonishing blue/green flowered coat for Spring. I feel as if I should get a matching beehive hairdo. XD Erin got me the first four issues of an indie comic called "Phonogram", which I read last night and will review at length sometime when I am not so incredulous. Basically it's a somewhat Sandman-esque setup in which Britpop is a goddess. There are Golden Bough allegories involving Damon Albarn, and a ghost girl who hangs around because she doesn't know where Richey Manics went. The script comes across as much less ironic than (I suspect) the writer intended.

Last Thursday: I took a sick day, so after the exam I went downtown and ran all the errands I'd been putting off for months - shopping and picking up tickets mostly. Am set for the Scissor Sisters concert and the Nuit Blanche event, but alleged Booka Shade night is proving elusive. Ticket counter girl at the Musée Juste Pour Rire claimed she has no knowledge of events held in rented rooms; then I walked all the way up St.L to Moog Audio and they'd never heard of it either. So either funds ran out or... they are really serious about keeping out teh alkies. XD; Still listed on the Get Physical artist site, though, so I will show up at the door or something and hope for the best ahaha.

Also bought a few volumes of manga (still missing: Nana 12 and 14, Bleach 17) and a new outfit at American Apparel, but it's still too cold out to wear it.

Weekend before that (Chinese New Year): had to work a production release on Saturday, so met Ced afterward for milk tea and shopping in Chinatown. Bought, made and ate food, though not nearly as much as most Chinese families do. XD; The chocolate mousse trifle thing turned out better this time, though I had to chalk up a failed batch of egg whites to experience... I have a tendency to obsess over one recipe until I get it right, I think. Although I have had a great idea for getting rid of the leftover whipping cream and the matcha powder in the freezer, namely GREEN TEA PARFAITS. Will see how it goes over. \o/

TO ACCOMPLISH IN NEAR FUTURE

* acquire a salad and a fancy espresso concoction
* write JoJo fic (I have been editing Senza Fine all day)
* write [livejournal.com profile] drabble_trade request (better sooner than later)
* translate bits of FFXII Ultimanias

A COMPLETELY RANDOM OBSERVATION UNRELATED TO THE ABOVE

Does Dirge of Cerberus remind anyone else of Weiss Kreuz Glühen? I guess if this were a poll the choices would be "Y", "N", and "The fact that you are equipped to draw this comparison is proof positive you are wasting your life".
petronia: (heart's desire)
I've been blogging nothing but fic and batches of mp3s. To be honest I've been doing nothing much but writing fic and working on the next issue of SSBB. Somehow I feel that this should not engender complaints. XD

Have had a sort of unintentional FF7 matsuri in the past week - rereading my own fic, other people's fic, etc. - culminating on Friday night with an actual playthrough of the beginning of FF7, up to Aeris's house (Tania wanted to see what the plot was like). All I could think was:

1) This is so much better written than Advent Children.
2) I could die happy if I never saw the inside of a mako reactor again.

And then, in the SSBB submission pile - but you'll have to see it in order to believe it. *uncertain hearts*

Random fic links:

Mixed Signals, by [livejournal.com profile] tenshi_no_korin
Rentboy!Reno TGIF special: chug two Coronas before 3PM, then read this. I promise it helps. To paraphrase the protagonist of HERO [1], if you have a pile of fics and manage to get through all of them, you can still dig down to the bottom of the pile and read the first one again. By then you'll have forgotten and it'll be just like new!

...In retrospect if the Bishink fanons have a fault it's sentimentality, sugary like the alcoholic drinks of recurring trope, but Tenshi and Joy are "fixers" where I'm typically not. I'm not much for complaining about unfulfilled goals that weren't in the mission statement to begin with. *g*

A Matter of Timing, by [livejournal.com profile] miko_no_da
More randomous Reno pr0n (it's Rude/Reno this time). Because... why the heck not? It's very well written and I don't see anyone complaining. XD

The Daughters and Children of Mara, by [livejournal.com profile] dijeron
Not FF7 at all (XXXHolic, written for Tin's Amanuensis Challenge), but I said the next time I recced fic I'd have to link this one or bust for reason of sheer awesome, so. It works better if you know the series - or have thought about the series - but no real spoilers.

[1] If you are not already reading this, you are totally living under a rock. Or just completely out of touch with everyone else who happens to be on my flist, or something. *g*

Here is some Advent Children fic. Predictably it is about Rufus.

A Sense of Theatre )

Last one for a while (got in touch with Wen, can work on the SSBB story now ^_^v). I want to finish the piece about Clayman and Dorian but my notes have degenerated from a simulacrum of Socratic dialogue to a schizophrenic quotation war pitting Keats against Van Gogh. Even this one is more serious than I intended at first - for some reason writing humour or anything "light" rubs me wrong these days, I feel like I come off arch. Maybe I've reached the limit of my backlash against "lyricism" and the rubber band is snapping the other way.

Cloud: Hey, who put Aeris in the water suppl--oh wait, I did.

Thanks again for uploading, Lux )

petronia: (yeah what?)
I totally feel justified in reading other people's hilarious Advent Children threads as, like, I've seen twenty minutes of it already. But this reminds me that - correct me if I'm off-base of course - I always kind of assumed the ZOMG FANFIC feel to the latest crop of FF7 spinoffs was due to Enix? I know the merger caused a fairly thorough corporate shakeup, and I always pictured this gang of Enix managers trooping down to Nomura's office and going "ALL YOUR BASE IS BELONG TO US, RESFIC NOW THX. :0"

...No?

***

(2AM and no one will be reading this) I need a proper frontispiece for Petronia // Yume. Am a bit stumped, I want a Mirage of Blaze pic but certainly don't have any original or doujinshi Mirage art that looks good in electric blue on black monotone. >_> Suggestions are welcome.

Not only have I not been reading Mirage, I've not been thinking about it. ^^; It's like I've locked that part of my mind away and stuck a biohazard sign over it. I've had to put fandoms aside because they were impinging on pressing real life concerns, but only reluctantly and never with great success; this is the first time I've had to put a fandom aside because I needed my brains back for other fanstuff. Weirdly the one exception seems to be that Chiaki jazz bar fic, which I'd still rather like to finish before I leave despite it being 99% unlikely. It's just that I have the suspicion my brains'll be eaten by a whole new set of who knows what by early October.

...I have decided to bring Trinity Blood novels for plane and train reading. Admit this is pretty genius. For all I know I may even be inspired to write for the series; I mean what would you rather read anyway, travelogue bloggery or travelogue bloggery thinly disguised as plotless fic about Hugue de Watteau wandering around Bruges and angsting?
