In IMAX, which was like $17.50 on a Sunday night. Good grief.

* Kept squinting at the Grindelwald dude like, where have I seen him before? ...On the Captive Prince discussion comm, I'm now guessing. Incidentally I just Googled to remind myself of the spelling and apparently he is marrying Ginny Weasley. WHAT.

* Nick Cave, Hermione? Really? Nick Cave?

* I gotta say I am with Ron on this one: the only ppl who want to see Harry/Hermione manips airbrushed into scary post-Twilight vampiricism are the ppl who make them on the Internet. It was like one of those cringey fanart roundups [livejournal.com profile] marej used to do. Voldemort: BANNED FROM LIVEJOURNAL

* The pacing is finally right in that it conveys the feel of the book, properly - sort of grim teen-lit survivalism, from mundane home to wizarding home to city squatting to a tent in the middle of nowhere, each time ejected into further isolation and depression... On the other hand, grim. If one had one's druthers, would one prefer the series to have blown up to double movies circa GoF/OotP when the books were more "riotous tapestry of characters and events" and less "Harry and Hermione trudging to Mordor"? I mean, the actors would all be like 30 by the end, but. XD

* There is something kind of the matter with Snape's hair. Too much body???

* ...Nick Cave?

Nick Cave, Hermione? Really? Nick Cave?

EXACTLY MY REACTION. Couldn't believe no one had mentioned it, either. (And I always click the spoiler cut, aha.)

According to my sources further down the comment thread, this was Dan "teen Libertines fan" Radcliffe's song rec. I could come up with a witty comment, but I think I'll go get something alcoholic instead.

i couldn't help laughing during the sparkly harry/hermoine segment. like. seriously? perhaps i was too caught up imagining what it would be like to act that with someone who was kind of a brother-figure. XD

I kept picturing this fanart (http://binsybaby.livejournal.com/699643.html) (which I had assumed at the time was an entire pisstake and non-spoilerish XD).

Even better yet, a song I used on my Digital Devil Saga fst (http://ladysisyphus.livejournal.com/665268.html) (linked in case anyone wants it) specifically for how fucked up it is!

We snuck in a flask, so I was drunk and having to go to the bathroom just as the scene with this in it kicked up, and I had to turn around and shake myself a few times just to make sure I wasn't hallucinating it.

Well, please remember that I was staggering drunk and on my way out the door to the bathroom at the time, but I think it came on the radio at one point and she made Harry dance to it.

On top of everything it is AN ANACHRONISM since HP is taking place in the 90s and that Nick Cave album didn't come out til 2004!

ACTUALLY: he made HER dance to it, and right when i thought they were going to have a ~moment~, she was like JIGGA PLEASE and walked away again. ngl, i fist-pumped in front of small children.

I am honestly unsure what they were going for in that scene! The books are all "Harry/Hermione: definitely not there YOU ARE SEEING THINGS," and the movies are like "Harry/Hermione: unspoken moments of EXTREME AWKWARDNESS #1,643 in a series."

man, that is straight up steve kloves; apparently he's a huge hermione fan -- which is awesome -- but hates ron. it's very shades of cassie claire. MOSTLY, I CANNOT BELIEVE JKR DIDN'T BEAT HIS ASS.

that boy -- well, young man? i guess we can't really call him a boy anymore, but fuck it -- is a special, special creature.

wrt your comment below: not so much in the movie itself, but all the promo/red carpet/lead up pictures of tom felton and matt lewis were SMOKING hot. i was like, DAMN DUDES, WHERE'D YOU COME FROM?!

no, you're exactly right. a few years ago [livejournal.com profile] helenish wrote this completely ridic draco/neville post-hogwarts fic because, you know, she loves them and thought they were both great and needed to bone (and oh, did they bone, in increasingly ooc scenarios but it's cool, it was hilarious) and FINALLY, I CAN SEE IT.

I used it on my Mononoke FST (http://8tracks.com/petronia/black-cat-bone-mononoke)!

There were definitely others in the audience who recognized it. I mean, there were like 20 ppl in the showing, but half of them were in goth gear.

...who the hell is Nick Cave?

The very sad thing is that I swear I meant to send you this link www.soupnutsy.ca to make you have lunch there when you came to tdot. Which, of course, I didn't. so sad. but there's gonna be next time, yeah?

yeah, I thought the pacing of the movie was pretty excellent, considering a large chunk of the 7th book is basically man vs wild: wizard style. laughed so hard at your voldemort and harry/hermione comment.

I am waiting with bated breath for Dumbledore/Grindelwald a la Margaret Yourcenar in the last installment. Maybe it will be more gaymo than Tom Riddle at Hogwarts. Maybe it will be STOP MOTION ANIMATION.

To this day I cannot get away from the magical thinking that Fandom's prayers turned Draco and Neville hot. As in, they seriously look like how slash fanfics described their grownup selves in 2003.

OMG YES, I was just talking to Chrissie about this, it was such an obvious fanart moment - if the amulet was trying to get itself smashed, it couldn't have picked a better way. MY EYES.

MTE on the Nick Cave thing.

I was a pretty drunk during that scene and had to do some "research" on the internet afterwards just to make sure.
