The media coverage of this stuff is getting hilariously dry ("unsurprisingly, speculation from various quarters regarding a reunion tour has intensified"). The fans are... well, the fans do care. XD But after the hysteria of the last one, yr avg member of the massive perhaps realized that the most productive course of action qua fan is to play it cool and not act like it's a big deal if they want to turn up at each other's gigs. I mean, it isn't a big deal! Or it shouldn't be. Ideally it would happen every other week so that even NME Online will grow tired of running the item and we can all go back to devising elaborate AU fanfiction. XD They should even record that long-promised Christmas single and please
poptimists by failing to chart higher than #37, there's all stakeholders on my flist taken care of then.
Okay in all seriousness it is rilly heartwarming. Weird, because watching Pete and Carl doing their ever-decreasing circles act over the course of 2-3 years is kind of like observing those mice experiments where they take out a bit of their brain so that no matter how often they press the pedal they always forget it brings an electric shock and not pellets. ...But heartwarming.
Come to think of it I guess if, say, Damon Albarn and Graham Coxon turned up at each other's gigs it would be a big deal. Hmm. OTOH if that happened I bet management would bring up an extra mic stand instead of hiding them.
I was seriously thinking of writing a proper fandom primer ("What Wikipedia Doesn't Tell You") but then I realized it needed a relationship chart, so I drew a relationship chart - or the first draft of one. XD; When I finish it I'll scan it in, it's kind of epic... One RL benefit of this fandom is that I'm now way more media literate than I used to be. I.e. it's not like I lacked media literacy before, but now I spot the BS and attribution errors a mile away, to the detriment of my faith in humanity. The downside is that brain cells spent on tracking Kate Moss's love life could definitely be devoted to some higher purpose instead.
Here's a question: is 8tracks not supposed to play tracks in the order in which they're placed? Because they've always done so for me, insofar as I know. ^^;

Date: 2008-09-23 10:20 pm (UTC)Whether 8T plays your tracks in order or out depends on 8T's own discretion. Like most people I construct playlists minding chemistry of song ends/beginnings, so unnecessary whimsical crapfest ticks me off to no end.

Date: 2008-09-23 11:17 pm (UTC)As for them, it's heartwarming on a personal note, in a two-people-who-were-very-close-and-then-weren't-finally-getting-their-act-together kind of way, or at least I find it so; it makes me happy that they're getting over all the bad blood because you get the feeling they kind of need it. But beyond that I don't care much as to either the fandom or the media's reaction (save for the Guardian, who are always snarky - when they pick up on things, anyhow); it's like watching too many reruns of the same X-Files episode. After a while all the bad science starts to hurt too much for me to forgive the writers.

Date: 2008-09-24 02:18 am (UTC)I've not been around long enough (or possibly, came in too late) that I don't still find the media/structural fandom dynamics interesting. ^^; Have also had to normalize a lot in a short time - six months ago I was still horrified at discovering the non-boundaries of latter-day celebrity "reporting". Suppose it was time I rejoined the 21st century or whatever.
Anywayz I hope it does them some good. Frankly I find it heartwarming that they're on speaking terms at all. XD;;
