1) I read the latest TRC spoilers since I figured I'd never manage to catch up on the manga before the grace period expires anyway, and now I am DYING. CLAMP YOU SPAZZES WHAT ARE YOU DOOOOINGGGG XD XD XD

2) One peculiar side-effect of Libs fandom is that people (RL people, that is, or online people who may as well be RL) feel impelled to keep me in the loop re: happenings in Pete Doherty's life. Like if he's in jail, out of jail, on the front page of Youtube, frolicking through fields of bluebells, that sort of thing. It's... kind of heartwarming? I mean, I know, hence being in the fandom, but the thought, etc. XD

The manager of Babyshambles ought to write a best-practices handbook on Dealing With Batshit Fandom and send a copy to LJ's customer relations management team (that is, assuming LJ actually has a CRM team and not just LIES). It's rather inspiring to watch competence in action.

3) Sororial unit returneth tomorrow in good spirits, having fulfilled her mission of getting glomped** by Carl BarĂ¢t. Man, I remember when I used to go the extra mile for fandom, now I'm way too lazy.

4) This (linking [livejournal.com profile] ladysisyphus's post for context).

5) I hope at least some of you people knew Tada Yumi does My Chemical Romance doujinshi.

** Somehow I managed to get this far before I figured out the right word for it

I reckon they dj whatever bands they're into? And knowing Tada Yumi they are stories about people sitting around with a cup of tea. But yeah, she does fanart of like, Idlewild. XD; "Fanart", "portraits of indiebois using Andrew Kendall's photo archive as reference", what's the diff.

And then there's the OshiAto ones. Prince of Tennis, UK indie, what's the diff

I kind of doubt they're the only circle to do MCR/PATD tbh, I'm just amused it's Tada Yumi. XD (She's a really influential shoujo mangaka and the character designer for Yukikaze... you know the one?)

Hey, I hope you don't mind if I comment a bit about point 4. ;) I haven't read the story in question so you'll forgive me if I speak in general terms.

Setting aside the commenter's behavior (posting anonymously, threatening to call in media, etc) I have to say I disagree with the notion that being uncomfortable with Bible fic is inherently homophobic. Writing R-rated material about religious figures is controversial, period, and may be construed as offensive even if it was written in a spirit of love and respect. Even the idea that the Bible is on the same level as Final Fantasy will bother a lot of people, and that point is being ignored.

It's the same as having issues about RPS fic; it's not the fact that it's slash, it's that you're writing erotica about live people who may eventually find it and read it.
I support the right of the author to tell such a story, but I also reserve the right to find it inappropriate.

Oh, I don't think being uncomfortable with Bible fic is inherently homophobic - any number of people out there would be uncomfortable with het Bible fic, for instance (or, as you say, with the idea of "ficcing" a work like that to begin with). But there are many published novels that extrapolate on the lives of Biblical figures, and film treatments too, that contain sexual elements - for one thing, there's quite a lot of sex in the Bible itself. Presumably one would avoid reading/watching them if one weren't comfortable with them. But if you jump down someone's throat (as the OC did) and tell them they shouldn't be allowed to write, specifically, m/m stories with Biblical elements, because it would be inherently offensive - well, that's homophobia, because it's the homosexuality to which you're taking offense. As opposed to, say, the fact of Richard Gere playing King David as a sexual human being, thank you very much (and that'll be the first and the last time we mention that film).

What it comes down to is something like this: people have every right to be uncomfortable with or offended by SSBB stories. Many people have been, for reasons that have nothing to do with religion - non-con or shota, or orientalism, or even bad writing. The point isn't being ignored, it's taken into account, and I get a lot of heat for it. ^_^; My editorial stance will always be that if you come across something that doesn't sit well with you, click the Back button. Otherwise, as long as they fit the stated rules of the zine, the stories will be allowed to find their own audience.

Thank you for taking the time to write such an extensive and courteous reply! :) I did feel that there was a bit of confusion on some commenters' parts as to why anyone would mind. I'm glad to see that it's taken into account, and I'm sorry for saying the point was ignored when it obviously wasn't. ;)

Regarding offensivess, I would draw a line between stories that contain sexual elements and stories that are mostly about those elements. However, like I said, I haven't actually read the story in question so I can't judge. (So I should probably shut up, but having started, I might as well justify my position XD)

(...Richard Gere played King David? When?)
