Happy Deepavali/Diwali

I fly out on Hari Raya, dates are auspicious. XD And there is a biennale happening here as well as in Shanghai.

So far I have been to Little India, Chinatown, the Boat Quay and Orchard Road; bussed all the way across Tampines (past a newly constructed Ikea megastore, to give an idea of where that is in the city structurally); had kaya toast and milk coffee and shaved ice with red bean and grass jelly and grated peanuts and corn, and Indians sweets I can't identify; met helvetius and lacewood and aefallen; written four postcards I haven't yet sent; visited two Hindu temples; hit up Marks and Spencer for tea and jaffa cakes; and bought Steel Ball Run vol.9. Not however in that order.

In five hours I have to get up and grab a bus to Malacca so I'd best go to bed now. XD

okay you just opened it up for a whole slew of questions in your previous post.

do they pay people whose fic they print? do they even ask them? i'm soooo curious. also you have to take pics of Alan Rickman looking sparkly in Taiwanese wuxia-shoujo style. seriously, i want an icon of that.

Oh yes? That's a major way publishers find new light lit authors in Asia. It's one of the reasons the origfic scene is way more active and attracts better writers than the fanfic scene: if your multi-chapter fantasy m/m romance epic is popular you can get it picked up (with dust jacket copy that reads "You loved it when it was online, now own it for reals!").

Basically, if Cassie Claire were Chinese there'd be no reason why she wouldn't be able to get the Draco Trilogy into print, though she might not make that much money off it (royalties are as dodgy as copyright, no surprise). Russian too; according to Remiel the Russian Tolkien spinoffs are classics in their own right. XD
