Baby diary: 57 weeks 2 days
Jan. 17th, 2020 10:13 pmAlan's saying "da da da da" a lot. Now when he wakes up he doesn't always cry, just talks to himself in his crib -- or to his stuffed animals, I suppose. Still not walking, but nearly able to stand on his own. Sometimes, when he's busy trying to turn on the stove or shaking the laundry rack to make the clothes fall off, he doesn't realize that he's not holding onto anything for balance. :P
Full on "hepping" mode all day, pulling dirty laundry out of the machine as fast as I put it in, but I'm occasionally surprised to find that he's put something back where he found it, eg. a towel in its drawer.
Has learnt that foods placed in his blue silicone bowl are for him to pick up and eat. Will occasionally rock on his rocking horse, but doesn't know how to get on and off. Has figured out that his noisy toys have on/off switches. Broke the tambourine. Still eats Kleenex with every evidence of enjoyment!!
Appetite is enormous. It's a race as to whether he'll outgrow the snowsuit before the spring thaw. I've taken to showing up at daycare with milk and cookies, to be consumed on the bus home. Alan doesn't sleep much at daycare so once his stomach is full he passes out. Usually he wakes up again, but yesterday -- for instance -- he fell asleep at 7pm and I had to rouse him to change his diaper. Good for me in that he sleeps through the night, but also means that on weekdays I barely get any time with him when he's not cranky bc sleepy/hungry/thirsty. Starting to look forward to weekends again. XD;
This week: Monday and Tuesday, stayed home with my mom due to mild fever/cold. Daycare Wed and Thurs (came back with a poopy change of clothes, which surprisingly hadn't happened earlier). I took Friday off work but brought Alan in so I could Do Stuff, and his grandparents picked him up by car because it's minus a bazillion out. His cheeks are quite ruddy, which I feel like in the past was just a characteristic of kids in winter but now seems a result of dryness or rubbing. An example of the kind of government regulation that libertarians and home schoolers rail against is that daycare is not allowed to put anything on Alan that says "organic" or "eczema" or "sensitive skin" without a prescription, not even Vaseline, even though his usual lotion is in no way medicinal and is simply a lotion with better ingredients than drugstore. Ironically, drugstore lotion is allowable, as long as it's not organic. Similarly, diaper balm with zinc oxide is allowable, diaper balm without zinc oxide is verboten, even though zinc oxide is useless shading to counterproductive where Alan's bum is concerned.
