Baby diary: 19 weeks 1 day
Apr. 25th, 2019 12:32 pm What else? A. has gone through the 4-month fussy period early, I think -- he's able to do everything listed in that chapter of the book, like passing an object hand to hand, or sticking his foot in his mouth. There's the slumping over my shoulder while crying, and the nights when he couldn't be bothered with milk during the day but drinks voraciously when I'm trying to sleep (like last night). He also won't have anyone now in the evenings except me, not even his grandparents, who nevertheless gamely took him while I went to a 7pm condo association meeting. Oodles of fun, but at least it was a wine and cheese party. XD;
Anyway, this period is supposed to be The Worst and it was... okay? I really am blessed with a chill baby. If he manages to tire himself out he can fall asleep wherever: the other day he conked out in his bouncer while grabbing his foot in a high kick pose. Soon I'll have to set him down if he falls asleep breastfeeding, as my place is so warm when it's sunny that it'll be unbearably sticky for him to sleep on me.
Food: I tried giving him a tiny bit of pureed banana, and a bit of smushed stewed carrot. He sucked down both happily and it didn't seem to bother him, but the carrot at least passed right through undigested. So far, the only thing he really hates is cold - cold food, cold metal.
Skincare: the stuff on his face is better, the stuff under his chin is worse. Frankly, the baby cortisone doesn't seem to do much. I'm now avoiding seafood, and moisturizing him with Skinfix lotion (which contains aloe) and raw shea butter. It's also a lot less dry now, with the spring rains, which can only help.
Went to brunch with M and S, at the new neighbourhood place where they let you park the stroller right at the table. First time for A. in a stroller or a restaurant: he was googly-eyed taking in all in. The table next to us had a 2-day-old baby girl, sleeping, who seemed to be the size of her father or grandfather's hand.
