And of course it was promptly squatted by a link farm, annoying old story. Not that I've been using it much - checked the email probably twice a year - so nobody panic. Unless of course you're from the Mirage of Blaze community, in which case that site should have been on Kekkai to begin with. I'll reupload it there, unless I find I don't have a copy (unlikely), but I'm sure someone's backed it up elsewhere.

It was probably time anyway. =_= Wipe clean the vaporous search engine trail, start anew with a domain name not tied to this LJ, like [real name].com. I haven't exhaustively isolated LJ/DW from the rest of my social media - this username is tied to my last.FM and 8tracks and Flickr and Youtube/Google, some of which in turn are tied to my Tumblr, and most stuff points back to my Tumblr nowadays, including Facebook and Twitter - and if you Google my real name [livejournal.com profile] corneredangel's link still comes up before the radio station's (which, Mikhail, if you have a moment, you can at least get rid of my full name on that XD;). But I should get something set up before SXSW so that I actually look like I have a presentable personal site with my CV and portfolio - even if I'm not looking, it's one of those ironed-shirt hygiene factors.

Steps:
1) Get bonus
2) Buy Macbook Air and Creative Suite
3) Design new site w/ 5 pages of static text and large social media call-to-action buttons
4) ???
5) Profit

I'd like minimoonstar.com too but I don't have the monopoly on that one - it's someone else on Twitter and someone else again on Flickr, Youtube, etc. and when you Google you get the Villalobos track which is as it should be. And I'm not so sure what I'd put on it if Fandom stuff doesn't go under that handle!

Just looked through, nothing of mine is coming up for either your name or "your name". Google changing things on the fly?

Just saw, three pages in. Whoa, that's still around - on my end *and* yours?

Yeah, memories! There's Sarah Davis and everything! IDK if Nora Jemison would want her name removed, it's probably not as up there search-wise as mine and the Aesthe pages in question are down.

Nora tends to want her real name removed from anything fannish whenever possible. If it's possible for [livejournal.com profile] corneredangel to do so, we'd be grateful. It kept cropping up on google even when I thought I'd got everything; it was almost a relief when Aesthe went down.

I can take the links down easy enough, and will. However, I do not consider it appropriate to remove the author's name and the titles of her signed articles from the bibliography. If the author would like to explain her request further, she is welcome to contact me directly by e-mail.

It might be an idea to take all the Aesthe links down, since I kept getting 'site may potentially hijack your browser' messages when trying to access it.

I can pass this along to her. When I had access to the Aesthe site I just removed her last name, which then screened her from potential employers' google searches.

For what that's worth, I seriously have not looked at that entire portion of my site since like 2004. I probably will change it into a plain "author/title" list of citations and remove any links.

Pinging as I don't think you'd've gotten [livejournal.com profile] flemmings's comment notification - could you take off Nora Jemison from that page as well? The essays in question have disappeared in any case.

It's too bad you can't use your (LJ-based) music blogging on your personal site.. Though I guess you could link to the music tag on this journal?

I wouldn't, anyway. XD; Too many emoticons, too many in-jokes for the in-crowd, too much of a learning curve too. I've been sort of at a crossroads as to where I want to go with my music blogging for a while, none of the options are entirely satisfactory somehow and I don't know what I want to achieve with it precisely. I'm in a period where I'm discovering new and exciting stuff again but after the whole thing with the Libs when it was too exhausting to write about, I'm out of the habit. XD;

Music writing can be too in-jokey? I thought it was all about reference points! I mean maybe your references are different, but...

I liked your little tumblr bit on Damon Albarn and his iPad, I bet that would read fine on a sideline blog. Maybe you could join some kind of music discussion community that lets you keep track of all your comments? Unless you start writing structured essays, it just seems like there's always going to be some shorthand gloss going on or need for discussion to draw out the main points.

I'm sorry about the lost domain! That sucks so much. I've got a similar set of experiences and imo the catharsis of moving on from a domain-name is a decision best made for oneself ;A;

MacBook Airs (MacBooks Air?) look amazing, when I am able to afford one I'll know I have arrived. Just bustin it out at meetings, all, I've got your demo right here on my paper thin computer :')

Have been trying to send NataliaAlexeeva.com like for ~4 months now. Why so slow, where is my motivation. It's just so serious-sounding! I kinda wish shapes were legitimate address-bar items. I want ★.com instead...

Yeah I was like ffffuuuu.gif for 15 minutes and then I was like, yeah it's probably time. I've been putting off registering real name domain for ages as well - it just seems like so much of a "social" "media" "guru" BS thing to do, these days.

Haaa I will always pay top dollar to not have to lug around extra weight! My entire scholastic career was spent on various strategies avoiding taking textbooks home. ...Okay and also I guess I have mild social anxiety about looking cool at SXSW. Not too cool, no Galaxy Tab or nuffin', just cool enough to blend in.

It's slightly reassuring to see someone else pondering the relative separation/linkage of their various online identities - I'm beginning to accept that it will always be disconcertingly easy for anyone who's really determined, to find all of mine no matter how carefully I try to draw a line down the middle.

Six e-mail addresses and it's still the usernames that get me in the end. XD;

Yeah - I actually started being careful early on, as soon as I registered a Facebook and realised it was most useful for RL people. But it's impossible to totally segregate, because my music stuff sort of sits in the middle - I'm not going to register two different accounts at last.FM/blip.FM/8tracks, even if that were practical, and the modus operandi on Twitter is that you're supposed to mix the personal and broadcast/public; people assume it's a spam account if you don't, practically. And anyway, I don't know that I want it completely segregated, philosophically speaking. If someone's determined to know all about my fannish activities, more power to them! What are they going to do, date me? XD If it was something along those lines they should know anyway! I just don't want to create tons of noise for people who want to check out my professional stuff.

Oh, but it must be nice to have a chance to reinvent yourself, so to speak. Plus, it's a perfect excuse to overhaul the whole site, especially with a new name.

Fffff Macbook Air. I mean, I would settle for any sturdy laptop that I can actually design with, but the mobility~! Plus I really am just physically incapable of carrying a laptop/other heavy-ish objects for extended periods of time because I'm limp like a noodle. And I really just think it would be awesome to meet with a client at a coffeeshop (if I actually get clients at all) and... well, hello there!

Ah! My thoughts echo yours on the username/real name/online identities issue, though I may be even further from, erm... knowing what I want and finding a solution to it. :|

I love my Macbook Air. I walk a lot to/from/during work --> thus I like light things with long battery life. The PC at home has all the computing power, ie, ability to play WoW on max settings. XD

And I would very much love to see the new webpage if/when it goes live <3

Hey Sabina, I need some info on flying porter. How did that work for you? Is it much better than taking the usual route of flying from Pearson to Mirabel? I may need to do a daytrip with zero notice and I'm trying to assess my options. Help!

From: [identity profile] petronia.livejournal.com
OMG, Porter = so much better, indescribably better, and if you're going downtown to downtown the taxi cost alone of getting in from/out to Pearson covers the difference (although if you're driving yourself and not from downtown that may not apply). There's perks too - free snacks and drinks in the lounge, free booze on the plane (when you're in a situation to fly Mtl-TO day trip usually means it's a very long day, so these things matter XD;).

was getting to/from the Centre Island a pain? I would say the cabfare is the same for me to get to Pearson or Downtown, but I'd be covered, so. What about Mtl commute? Is Porter more convenient on arrival than a conventional airline? I presume the meeting will be somewhere in the CentreVille? Though I got no clue where yer business towers are...(YES AM SAD!) since I was never in Mtl on business before.

It's really easy - the taxi takes you down to the waterfront, you step on the ferry which takes 3 minutes. Probably faster than going through the airport from end to end, since there's only one terminal there and it's Porter's.

Arrival in Montreal is the same no matter what airline you take - you get out at Pierre-Elliot-Trudeau and take a cab (~20$/20min to downtown core, if there's no traffic). You might be headed slightly further east to the Main area but I doubt it. Porter's USP is really getting in and out of TO.

Do you work in the downtown area? I very seriously doubt I will have time (plus I'll need to figure out how and where to freaking PUMP. *facepalms* around noon), but ifffff there's a way, there's nothing I'd rather do than have a cup of coffee with you somewhere.

I don't work downtown, alas - well, I'm only 15 minutes out by car, but I'm also flying to Austin for 10 days on Thursday morning. XD;
