Bear with me
Feb. 6th, 2009 02:19 amNow that I've been on Twitter for some months I'm starting to see my own patterns of usage; which leads to me trying to figure out how to set up / hook up the various services for maximum benefit.
* I don't really use Twitter for "what I'm doing right now" updates. I'd put that in the Facebook conversation box if I were going to at all, but I usually don't bother. ^^;
* It is, however, psychologically useful on days when blogging in complete paragraphs feels like too much of a burden with which to cope (increasingly often in the past 2-3 years). The result is hard to read because the narrative runs backwards, but the alternative is no narrative.
* Twitter is great for jotting down class notes for personal use (automatic short URLs, same length/format I take notes in anyway). It's less great as a way of conveying ideas to LJ, because everything comes out Archy & Mehitabel. Not to say I haven't had responses to those posts, because I have.
* A number of unknowns have friended me on Twitter for my "class notes".
* I want to be able to send classmates and b-school contacts to my Twitter to access selfsame notes, but I can't because they're all mixed up with personal/fandom responses and two-hour-long blip.fm sets.
* It's hard to page back and find something you read a week ago on Twitter.
* You can write a sentence in response and have it link back to the Tweet, but you can't write a paragraph.
* I don't really care to see people's responses to conversations I'm not part of, whether logged on LJ or on Twitter itself.
* The software provides no way of creating groups or filters.
* As an MBA candidate with an e-commerce/marketing background who may or may not be working in this field in the future, I'm basically required to have a Twitter - a presentable one.
* SSBB needs a Twitter.
* I never post one or two songs on blip, either I don't post or I post twenty. No one's going to sit there and click through them individually from Twitter, let alone LJ (at least I think not).
Given all of which, I've come up with a theoretical setup (I haven't done any of this, apart from the first step):
1) de-link blip from Twitter and LJ altogether
2) keep the petronia Twitter for personal/fandom stuff (de-link it from LJ?? would essentially be occasional "one-liner posts", since @replies were never in my stream anyway)
3) set up a second account for school notes and use that as the "career" Twitter, reactivate
minimalicious and compile the Tweets there
4) set up a third account for SSBB alerts, recs, and whatnot
Which probably means 5) install a Firefox plugin of some kind so I can stay simultaneously logged in to everything. =_=
