This morning I scraped my left calf while crossing the train tracks. This is the same chain-link fence that's ripped small holes in my jeans, leggings etc. three or four times previously so in retrospect climbing that shit in a short dress and bare legs was not a genius moment for posterity. It doesn't hurt very much but was kind of gross as it skimmed a neat strip off the tanned layer of my skin and took a few seconds to start bleeding during which I could see what was underneath. XD; I had to go home to get it cleaned and bandaged which made me later than I would've been if I'd taken the long way around.
Two weeks ago I also skinned my knee lightly falling down on the sidewalk for no reason; très sixth grade chic. Though my major ailment right now is a nagging cough that started just before MUTEK i.e. by the standards of my respiratory system has just begun to malinger. Also, hay fever. It's going to be one of those Mysterious Allergy(tm) years.
ONWARD TO BRIGHTER TOPICS: Saint Laurent street fair started yesterday but it was sororial unit's CEGEP convocation and tonight is Ced's documentary shindig, so I won't be able to go until Saturday. Here's hoping for more 1$ CD singles and 5$ sundresses. XD
Speaking of Marianopolis convocation - this was the second one I attended [1], the first being my own eight years ago. CUE EMO STRINGS. I texted a couple of relevant persons, then sneaked off after the champagne-and-mini-cannoli reception and took a few photos of the now-empty first floor. I don't think I've been back twice since G and Hayson's year graduated, and I wouldn't be all that nostalgic now, except the school is moving to the new building for next year so this was pretty much the last chance to see it as it is/was. XD; Also it turned out a couple of the graduates this year were kids my best friend in high school used to babysit, that I remember her talking about. I don't feel old, just... taken aback. XD
...Time doesn't fly precisely, it moves in weird ways. Like a horror movie villain who walks unhurriedly but is always gaining on you no matter how fast you run. XD;;; When I think about gym class and [real names deleted as no one on my flist RL or otherwise has even heard of these people] and papering the inside of my locker with anime art printouts it seems like a glacial epoch ago, but when I think about hanging out on the pew benches in front of the first floor round window with the people I'm still friends with now it seems like last week. And the legendary Marianopolis Anime Club, and. Maybe the memories just seem fresh because they were packed away neatly and rarely called up; this is how the brain works, I've heard.
We've started to toss around the idea of having a Marianopolis Ten-Year Bash (this would be 2009), though saints alone know not everyone is still speaking to each other ahaha. My ten-year mark in online fandom is... this September, come to think of it.[2] X-Files, VampChron, Wheel of Time. *dies* HEY GUYS LET'S THROW ME A PARTY?
Or maybe I should wait for the ten-year anniversary of By The North Sea which is the first fic I wrote that people actually remember ahaha.At least it's finished. Who else here remembers online anime/manga ficcing fandom circa 1998-1999? COMMENTS PLZ.
I have a lot more to say (in short: music, writing, cheesecake) but will make another post for concision's sake.
[1] In the gym, with my butt parked in a Scholar Craft Samsonite 2200. I can't believe I've arrived at the point where I can identify plastic folding chair models on sight. It's kind of the lamest special ability ever.
[2] Thanks to the Marianopolis computer labs' free internet access. In two years the school gave me several very good friends to this day + fandom = pretty much my entire social life, which accounts for the disproportionate space it occupies in my personal mythos.

Date: 2007-06-15 09:27 pm (UTC)*snicker* oh yes. Brings to mind Seventh Seal, which I finally had the pleasure of seeing all the way through. Ok, so time doesn't necessarily mean death, but close enough.
Who else here remembers online anime/manga ficcing fandom circa 1998-1999?
Oh the horror. That question brings back a slew of YYH, YST, GW fanfics that I ... never wrote. yes, that's right, those never happened... I like the sound of that. It was before GW was officially released in the US and the anime fandom was on the brink of being completely inundated with teenie boppers and chicken fangirls. But Evangelion was out and that had made wanking off really cool for the boys. Ah the memories...
Also brings to mind the days of fandom mailing lists with flame wars every 2 months resulting in splinter mls. Which still happens, but now we have blogs, forums, and chatboxes to argue with each other. :b

Date: 2007-06-15 09:53 pm (UTC)...I was reading at that point (GW including yours, YYH, RuroKen, CLAMP see esp. Firecat Fanfics) although not really writing...okay I may have been writing truly unspeakable het waff for RuroKen, but if so I've blocked it out and it is lost to the mists of time, so.
Please to avoid tetanus etc. ^^;

... I don't think I was even aware of this foreign entity called "fanfic" back then? More accurately, I probably stumbled across the occasional fic but didn't quite realize what it was. (Enlightenment was eventually gained with the introduction to - heh! - Tin's RuroKen fic.)
Come to think of it, I'm pretty sure '98-'99 was when I started drawing. Hm.

Date: 2007-06-16 12:06 am (UTC)Ah, the bad old days, when there was hardly any fic for anything except, like, GW, YYH, and FF7, and somebody writing my "obscure pairing" (for which there is STILL almost no readable fic ten years later, because now it's just an old fandom nobody pays attention to) was automatically awesome no matter how bad the fic was. (That there is still fic worth remembering -- i.e. yours -- from that era is amazing.) And then there was the fact that yaoi fandom was so small that it was basically all one entity, with two somewhat overlapping factions run by different volatile characters. (Then again, remember when all fandoms were largely run by whoever managed to scrounge majordomo hosting before anyone else did?)

Date: 2007-06-16 01:31 am (UTC)Actually I remember a lot of big western fandoms on mailing lists pre-lj migration (ST:TNG, Star Wars TPM, Harry Potter back when nobody cared about CC or veelas or whatever!), but I didn't get into anime fandom until I found CFFML circa 2001 I think. TB/X, man. Making all my friends read Sakura and Snow. Unfortunately this only annoyed people who were reading my lj for the crappy Harry Potter fic, oops.

Where are you going to be exactly? :0

(you always know that the one thing i remember about you is that you once said you thought in text? i can't remember how you phrased it but that's always stuck.)

Date: 2007-06-16 01:51 pm (UTC)Freshman year of high school! Let's see. We got a computer in 1997 and satellite television (with Cartoon Network) in 1998; by 1999 I was reading but not writing.

Date: 2007-06-16 02:53 pm (UTC)My early fandom days consisted of reading insane quantities of fic, and not much else. XD I read a lot of RK fic, but possibly I read MORE Evangelion fic, even before I saw the series (fact: I was spoiled for the whole of NG before watching a single ep). Hum, I was probably also reading CCS fic too, or maybe that came a year or two later.
And either DURING this, or BEFORE it, I also read a lot of cartoon fic, especially for Jonny Quest, Extreme Ghostbusters and SWAT Kats, but I think I'm weird that way. XD
On the non-fic side, this was also the era of CLAMP and site collectives and domains with RIDICULOUSLY baroque, elaborate graphic design, wasn't it? I definitely remember sakurazukamori.net (or... however you spelt that) and the video game fandom had (has?) an aesthetic all of its own too. XD

Date: 2007-06-16 07:50 pm (UTC)By everyone else's comments, I seem to have been reading about what everyone else was reading, in varying proportions, -FY, -non-TB/X clamp, +ffviii. I probably was also being newly terrified by Oscar's cat-porn. >.>
Er, I hope you heal well and won't scar? ^^;;;
