At a bit of a loss for content, so
Apr. 26th, 2007 12:32 amI mean, a lot of the times when you say to me,
you're blaming /figure skating/ for this? XDDDDDD
it may not be causal, necessarily, but I think it's analogous
or things that are simultaneously sublime and awful
it's always failing at least one of the three
that's fantastic, really
Schuldig doing pirouettes <3
well, I did Prince of Tennis on ice amirite
you did <33
with Squall and Rinoa's prom outfits
it would work grebt
[later]
...Uh, well, have a couple of Youtubes while you're at it:
For instance, I hate commentators: I linked Chrissie a version of this skate (it's Johnny Weir's 2006 Nationals LP) but this is the actual file my sister downloaded and I watched. I can't get over how he executes everything perfectly on the beat, at the same time as the voiceovers are spazzing that the elements are out of order (!?) and that the performance is too interiorized, or something. Also, I hate the new scoring system because I don't understand it.
Hopefully, Araki Hirohiko never watched figure skating and will never do so in the future: the idea occurred to me at one point. It was one of the most terrifying thoughts ever to cross my mind.
Best figure skating hair ever: Marina and Gwendal (good run at best figure skating names ever, too).
I'll get you, Mao-chan, and your little dog too!: sickeningly... kawaii... cannot... cope... orz I guess the emergence of a Japanese skater working the moe angle is historical inevitability? But her triple axel kicks butt, so that makes it okay.
(The commentator talking over it is Takeshi Honda, by the way, if anyone was wondering what happened to the dude. It's really freaky watching Japanese coverage of Skate Canada; it feels like aliens from Planet Nippon kidnapped Barb Underhill and Paul Martini. XD)

In other news: major trip stuff booked except for Rome hotel, now to compile the rest of the checklist. SSBB stories all vetted and accounted for (minus two - they know who they are). Now I have to do that thing whereby I list them all by title, author, pseud, and wordcount and arrange them painstakingly in mixtape fashion despite the fact that I'm the only one who cares, and... design the cover. orz

The only exception I can think of off the top of my head - Arakawa's Olympic LP.
And I *was* wondering what had happened to Takeshi Honda; thanks.

Date: 2007-04-26 08:34 pm (UTC)"anyway, my major problem with this fandom qua fandom is I just hate everyone"
Nooooo, you can't seriously hate everyone?! What about Stefan Lindemann? The short
dorkyguy who somehow managed to win bronze once, but usually just royally messes up?That's some major cuteness overload with that girl/dog skating pair, I must say *3*
"and arrange them painstakingly in mixtape fashion despite the fact that I'm the only one who cares"
I only recently realized that you did this, so from now on I swear I'll do my best to read them in order ;D Out of curiousity, what exactly is your specific system that you order the stories by? Schoolboys first? Smuttiest stories last? You certainly don't have to tell me if it's a secret, but I can't help but be curious 83

Date: 2007-04-26 09:48 pm (UTC)I don't hate everyone, I guess - it's just that I increasingly fell out of watching with the 2004 season because it wasn't the same after the batch that retired then (Yagudin, Bourne and Kraatz). I had emotional attachment to that generation of athletes and the ones preceding them but not after. XD In retrospect someone should've shown me Johnny Weir at that time but I live in Canada and pay exactly zero attention to the US national circuit, so. I don't hate him but I hate the fact that I like watching him because it's like being an Anna Kournikova fan (which is not the diss it sounds like, but).
Well. I don't hate the Chinese pairs. I don't hate Jeff Buttle, that's would be like kicking
Ohtori out of Prince of Tennisa puppy. I don't hate Mao Asada because it's like hating baby animals but I wish I did because it's like hating baby animals....It's like organizing songs on a mixtape, basically. *g* What story will pull people in at the beginning, what impression you want to leave them with at the end, try to separate long stories with short ones, dramatic stories with funny ones, put complementary prose styles next to each other, don't put two stories that are about the same topic next to each other, and so forth.

Date: 2007-04-27 02:11 am (UTC)*nods* I completely understand. The skaters I grew up watching aren't active anymore either, and I guess I'm not as
obsessiveinterested as I used to be. And I know exactly what you mean regarding Johnny Weir :\The Chinese pairs are really something. Zhao and Shen were my favorites for the longest time, but I admit the two Zhangs are now quite close to overtaking them. And Buttle, well, let's just say he's sweet enough to give me cavities.
Ooooo, I see. I admired your hard work before, but now I'm more or less in awe. You really put a lot of thought into it, obviously. Very cool *thumbs up*
OMG I was blinded by the Brian Joubert video >_<
Date: 2007-04-27 02:11 am (UTC)(To console myself, I randomly found this article (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/02/16/AR2006021602450.html) where it says that, "At home, in Quarryville, Pa., bullies at the rink would shoot hockey pucks at Johnny while he practiced, Patti Weir told the New York Times." LOL, in a sad way.)
