What do you think are the top three best things I've written?

Or, yanno, top one or two, if that's all you remember.

Not fishing for compliments (just because it's the best thing one's written doesn't mean it's awesome in the grand scale of things XD;), but I'm honestly curious.

I'm also curious to know if you have a distinction between "best" and "personal favourite," because that often happens with me.

Not really, but I could've said sheesh of course there's a distinction between "best" and "personal favorite"--the two coincide only occasionally! Also I could've mentioned "Revels."

"Proof by Contradiction" is my favorite, obviously. Among what I've read, "Flor de Yemanja" and "20/20" as 2nd and 3rd. I'm hesitant to say they're the best of your work though because I haven't read your Viewfinder and Jojo fic (I told myself to catch up on canon first but when I moved across the country, I forgot to bring all my manga scans).

I was rather amazed by "Crocus" so maybe that belongs in the top three instead?

I would have said Viewfinder, Jojo, William Gibson, except I felt bad picking three I beta-read on. XD;; Apart from the phonograph scene Flor de Yemanja, there's a scene by a fountain in your Giornio/Jolene fic I really like. Also your f/f story for Shousetsu Bang Bang, with the pro soccer player.

There's no reason why you shouldn't pick three you beta-read, given that I asked the question of my own stories in the first place. XD

I can virtually guarantee that SSBB story you're referring to isn't mine, though (I had to think about it... XD;; but I would remember if I wrote something like that...)

Halcyon, and Revels, although I think these overlap with 'personal favorite'.. The first three revolve around characters and situations not as immediately close to my heart (bar Rohan guest appearance) but if I had to name a top three right now (having read all your JoJos!) I would name these..

Huh, you know, until I saw corneredangel's comment I was mentally counting only fic - but actually it's your non-fiction writing I like the best. I couldn't pick out a single instance, though, I mean the point is that it's concise and eloquent and wide-ranging.

As for fic: Lyonesse, best and favourite ♥. I get the feeling this one is quite personal? and I think it's a brave thing to have written. But aside from that, it seems there is a place in my heart for a story in which 'moving on' involves friendship and creative professional development, rather than BABIES with a side order of AND THEY NEVER ACTUALLY GOT OVER IT. It's a more mature and 'useful' story than A Proof By Contradiction, in that sense. It also acts as kind of indirect fix-it fic for Nana (which could never have worked in-universe - the characters in Nana are doomed from the start just by the emotional tenor of the thing).

w/r/t 'best' and 'favourite' ... at the top, I tend to find these coincide. There's no way I'd choose a best that didn't have emotional impact. With middling things, yes, there are plenty of trade-offs between nicety of construction, accuracy, interest, appeal to kink etc. But even so, I think I'd weigh everything up, make a judgement based on overall effect, and use that as a measure of value. The only time other conceptions of what is best appear is when trying to work out how other people's value sliders are set.

Your WK works. (Velocity Over Time definitely tops my list for sure.) Because they are the ones that leave the deepest impressions even after all these years and when I think of them, the pictures that comes to mind are all dark, decadent and slick.
