This just in from the Shioul ML: Utada Hikaru theme songs for new movie based on Mishima's novel.

I first read Spring Snow when I was nine, during our move from upstate New York to Montreal. It was a Chinese translation my parents had borrowed from someone/somewhere - don't know where - later returned, and when I ask my mother she says she remembers no such thing. >_> As I recollect we were stuck in a motel for days with nothing to eat but Nutella on bread, and nothing to read but Mishima. From the experience I conceived a hearty dislike for Nutella, so it definitely happened (my mother claims not to remember that part either); it's a wonder I don't have irrational h8 for Mishima as well. I didn't get it, thought the main characters hadn't a scrap of sense in them. Not sure I've changed my mind, really.

Gyaah. Now, I need to
1) Read the books.
2) Get the mp3 somehow.

But I'm only halfway thru Jonathan Strange... *winces at pile of unread books on shelf*

! I saw the news that someone was adapting it into a comic book (shoujo??), but I didn't realise they were doing a whole movie...!

Great, now I have to go find.. this.. song. Eek.

And hilariously enough, my senior thesis involves writing about Mishima, though I've only read Confession of a Mask and the short stories collection so far.. *cough*

Somewhere, Mishima's spinning in his gr-- wait, did he get cremated? Actually I have no idea what they did to his body. Uh.

Well, somewhere, something is spinning, and not the earth. XD

Actually I have no idea what they did to his body. Uh.

Based on that family's history, my guess is that he was mummified and his wife keeps him in the living room. :D

Hmm.

Hmm, it'd be cooler if they cast him in resin and gave him an inner skeleton, and they pose him in--

*is shot*

You made it WORSE. D: Why is Japan so determined to bring a femenine element to Mishima's works? Is it because they fear that such a high concentration of testosterone will destroy them??

There's always the glass cage. People could go and gawk.

Maybe a Lenin-like coffin freezedried thingy? And they can serve ice cream on the side. In the summer.

Yeah, I really don't know what they were thinking. I mean, I'm not quite expecting Fist of the North Star or anything (*brain explodes*), but uh... yeah. I... I... the physicality... ughw... ee...

I'll just go right on imagining the Lenin-Mishima ZOMBIE MUMMY face off now.

Read my mind, you did. It was exactly Lenin's coffin I was thinking! They could fit them side by side. Don't you think they'd get along? They both were very passionate, and hardcore, people. No zombie mummy face offs!

I don't even know who's starring in the movie! ^^; There may be more brain breakage to come.

Kiyoaki is played by Tsumabuki Satoshi(妻夫木 聡), Satoko is played by Takeuchi Yuuko (竹内 結子), Honda is played by Takaoka Sousuke(高岡 蒼佑).
Nothing overly damaging to the little grey cells as yet.
Well, we already know that visually the movie is going to be flawless, I think we can trust them with the rabu-rabu part, the question is now how the spiritual/philosophical content will carry - if at all.
And, please dear gods, let them make the "Runaway Horses" into a movie next, that is by far the best part of the whole tetralogy and one of the best books I've read in my life.
You should read it, y'know. It is *very* different in style to the "Spring Snow", as is the point. It's the warrior's purity to the courtly decadence of the first book, and its characters.

On the off-chance that you are not avidly checking this thread, Remiel, it would appear Ikeda Riyoko is slated to write the manga adaptation of Spring Snow. *eeg*

I am not merely aware of it, I am already holding in my hands a glossy issue of "Women's Weekly" with first thirty pages of it. *eeeg* You are hundred light years too young to one up me in these matters, young lady. ;)
And it's not even a manga glossy - nay, a perfectly ordinary housewife's rag. Oh, were Mishima to know what pages would his opus magnum be sharing with the preview of the fourth Harry Potter movie - he'd have reached for the trusty old katana much earlier. :)

(Pls to note I haven't READ this book of his yet. Though I want to.) If they get Takki to play any of the rippling-muscle, bad-ass, hardcore characters, I will laugh and laugh and laugh and laugh.

Can't think of any other famous Japanese actors. :\

Spring Snow is actually not much with the badass and hardcore; more a tragic dumb aesthetic bishounen sort of story. XD
