(Edited to add: if you plug 英国 into Google the first hit you get is the University of Cambridge, but if you plug "England" the first hit is the CIA Factbook entry. Um.)

In other BL series I'm sort of following news: I'm waiting for penis_envious submissions to be posted even though I know they're going to hurt me (the better the writer the greater potential for brain damage, methinks). ...Actually Charmian had encouraged me to sign up for it, that day I was complaining of the blehs.

But instead I made bb_shousetsu. Aren't we happy for that?

(Also for some reason I keep expecting people to write more Viewfinder fic. I dunno. It just feels like there should be tons of it lying around my flist, and I'm vaguely puzzled all the time to realise there isn't.)

I would have known... just because the Japanese learning book I'm using is British and we saw that 英国 in chapter 1 :P

It's just really funny how the brain works for these things. XD Because I was told right off by the furigana that it's pronounced "hidekuni" and is a person's name, I just... ceased to regard the kanji as meaningful in a regular sense.

Strange... since it seems to be pronounced "ei" and "koku" (or "goku") in my book.

I can see learning Japanese will drive me bonkers soon :P

It is, those are the onyomi. But the kunyomi are "hide" and "kuni", and personal names are usually kunyomi. ^^;

(In other words, if you know by context it's "Britain" you read it out loud as "eikoku", but if you know by context it's a person you read it out loud as "hidekuni". Which is a mistake Japanese people could also make as well as not, I think.)

Or Chintsubu fics in general -- still thinking about that.

Sometimes I do get the desire to write Viewfinder fic, but I keep wanting to write something vaguely related to the Real World, as opposed to Yamano World[tm]. Psychological realism + Viewfinder = does not compute. XD

Also, I constantly have a contrary urge to write Feilong/Takaba.

I maintain that by creating bb_shousetsu, you are more evil and insane than I am.

Can't - won't have time to, with what I have to write for SSBB now. ^^; Though it's debatable whether I ever could have, or if my brain would've just shriveled up and refused to cooperate.

I'd encourage you to write that Feilong/Takaba but someone might spork me.

You should totally write something for penis_envious, if only because I'd love to see Takaya and the front of his pants attempting to ignore each other and not be the first to break down and wank. (While Naoe sits across the table from him, his pants very calmly open, and offers him tea and Him Jr. a wet towel.) I am STUCK on a bb_shousetsu idea AUGH.

And I keep wanting to take up the challenges on vf_scribbles but then I keep getting stuck on why write Takaba and started a mini-flowchart that so far only has Takaba --> pawn --> ?? WHY ARE WE WRITING STORIES ABOUT THE SEXUAL PAWN OF ASIAN MAFIA LORDS?

We write Takaba because he's easier to write than sociopathic Asian mafiosi, presumably. And also because reluctant heroes in positions rather enviable to the reader are a time-honoured mainstay of genre fiction (see: dorky boy happens into piloting giant robot, ordinary schoolgirl sucked into alternate fantasy universe).

It's true that I quail at the thought of attempting to write Asami POV, simply because he's there basically to screw, be sexy and have UST with anyone in the same room and we all know it. Er.
