The chibi bunny Takaya doujinshi
Jun. 14th, 2005 08:47 pmBecause I am in the mood to spread ph33r. :D
The chibi bunny Takaya doujinshi - which is more precisely speaking a chibi bunny Takaya anthology - is by one Sengoku Akari, who also wrote perfectly serious non-chibi non-usagi-fied Mirage doujinshi with angst and character development and sex and whatnot (there are a couple of them in the pile). AFAIK, chibi bunny Takaya (hereafter CBT) started as a gag omake series to her regular books, and proved to be such spwecial premium crack that he sort of took over the universe, to the extent that I came across a Chinese fansite that referred to her as "the chibi bunny Takaya doujinshika".
I had assumed Sengoku Akari only began drawing CBT after book 12, as a sort of antidote to the maddening wait for book 13, but when I gave it thought I realised I didn't actually know this for sure. She could very well have been doing them from day one. In any case, the story arc of the anthology I own - no, really, there's a story arc - begins post-Wadatsumi, with the premise that Naoe survived Hagi in spirit form (visually depicted as a highly-expressive empty speech bubble) and has been hovering about ever since, perfectly visible to everyone else but powerless to communicate with Takaya, who is of course in utter denial regarding his death. Thus:

As you can see, the other basic premise of these doujinshi is that all the awesome scenes in Mirage become EVEN MORE AWESOME if Takaya were drawn as a six-year-old boy in short pants with bunny ears and tail. It's hard to argue with this, especially when he scowls and looks fierce.

Even after book 13 came out and it transpired Naoe was bodily off somewhere else, she kept drawing speechbubble!Naoe, because... well, in order to get his reactions to scenes such as this:

bunny!Takaya: Naoe. <3
Kotarou: What?
bunny!Takaya: Nothing, just wanted to say your name. <33
bubble!Naoe: ...Takaya-san... *weeps*
And this:

bunny!Takaya: Don't you need me anymore? ;_;
bubble!Naoe: WAAAAAAAH~
(Yes, that would be chibi bunny Takaya taking his shirt off in front of Kotarou.)
And eventually, after Naoe can't take the stress anymore and formulates a Plan:

wireless!Kaizaki: The sea wind's cold. Take care of yourself.
bunny!Takaya: (...There's something weird about the way this guy moves.)
wireless!Kaizaki: *shuffles off C3P0 style*
Ayako: What is wrong with him?

Satomi dude: Kaizaki-sama, I can...
wireless!Kaizaki: *shuffles off with bunny!Takaya, somewhat less robotically than before*
Satomi dude: This... person... (He's got ability all right, but...)
Which leads to our favorite scene:

Meanwhile, Chiaki and Ayako are mostly like this:

(Kotarou has just given Takaya a birthday present in a beribboned bag, because "That's what Naoe would do.")
Ayako: Wh...what do you figure is in there?
Chiaki: I don't even wanna think about it.
Apart from the main storyline, the anthology also contains other gag doujinshi, 4-panels, illustrated thoughts on the drama CDs, etc.

Naoe: Kagetora... sama... forgive... me... urgh...
bunny!Takaya: What on earth did I do to this guy? (Every single night...)

How Kagetora Affects Other Men: An Object Demonstration
...Actually, when I went through the pile more carefully I realised I had two chibi bunny Takaya doujinshi, not one. XD;; The second one was drawn and printed post book 19, while waiting for book 20 to come out. I knew the last couple of chapters of book 19 (and the first chapter of book 20, the coy wretch!) were heart-attack-inducing, but it didn't hit home until I read this doujinshi that the Japanese fandom at the time fully expected Takaya to turn up dead. I mean, she did it to Naoe, why not aim for symmetry?
Thus, the second chibi bunny Takaya doujinshi will hereafter be referred to as the chibi winged bunny Takaya doujinshi (CWBT).

Now, one last scan JUST FOR SHI LIN:

See? EVEN MORE AWESOME.
