NEED TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THIS BOOK

BUT DON'T KNOW WHERE TO START

Everyone is wrong XD; 1) morally wrong, 2) wrong because I'm Chinese and I say it's wrong so there, 3) trainwrecks you see coming for 400 pages and that no one bothers to avert, 4) too much time spent in the company of awful c*nts, 5) intentional anticlimax EVERYTHING

Anyway it's meant to be unsatisfactory, not accidentally so, but that doesn't help. I find the weird thing about this universe is that there's so much "moral ambiguity" that I actually have very decided non-gray feelings as a result. XD; Like, I judged the mole in TTSS really, really hard. Maybe this is impacted by the fact that I was born in a Communist country, idk.

Still listing stuff that ended up in the TTSS movie. I am also more and more convinced that JKR read these (like a billion other people, granted).

You should still read it! It kind of has a slow start, a good middle, and a totally unsatisfying end XD; (in the sense that no one gets their just deserts, and the fact that Le Carre tells you all through the book this is coming doesn't really make it better).

No no, you should read it! XD; There are a lot of good parts to it. It's sprawlier, and a lot of it is set in Asia - Hong Kong, Vietnam, Cambodia at the end of the war. It's just that it tells you at the beginning that things are going to fuck up, essentially, and never deviates from that.

Anyway I started reading Smiley's People which is immediately more compelling (it's a bit shorter and there is a MENACING MURDER MYSTERY which actually involves Smiley reconstructing events from muddy footprints in the woods and stuff), but also more sad - I mean Smiley was always "this is the winter of my discontent" but now he is 200% so.
