I can't do it. XD;; Nakajima Atsuko's key animation doesn't so much remind me of GetBackers as it reminds me of all that quasi-yaoi illustration art she did for GetBackers and Peace Maker Kurogane; it's like watching animated doujinshi of Trinity Blood instead of the actual thing, as if Toshimi Nigoshi had been in charge of the Trigun anime. That being said clearly somebody is all for Abel/Esther ahaha. Like [livejournal.com profile] re_miel I suspect GONZO's going to make Esther annoying; I remember what they did to Tetsunosuke. =_= And why did they start with R.A.M. anyway? Why couldn't they have started with R.O.M. which is you know THE BEGINNING OF THE STORY? ...That is, they're pretty much separate, but R.A.M. spoils for R.O.M. (you're not supposed to know about Tres) so uh. :0 Anyway I'm just annoyed because now I feel as if I should read the second book as well before watching the anime.

*has totally been through this once with PMK*

The rest of the time I am staring intently and checking off the characters' eye colours. You have to realise that in the books nobody has blue or grey eyes. They have eyes the colour of lapis lazuli or frozen winter lakes or tempered saber-steel. If/when people start ficcing for this series I am totally going to go around leaving feedback telling authors they're not florid enough in their descriptions. :D

EDIT -- What with the way the papacy's been in the news lately, I feel the need to make further notes:

1) The previous pope in Trinity Blood was apparently quite the umm Renascentist, as Caterina, Franchesco and Alex... Alexander? WUSSYPOPE - are all half-siblings. o_o

2) So uh, what do you reckon Benedict XVI would do if vampires invaded the earth?

(What is the procedure/etiquette for responding to feedback on FFN, btw? ^^; People are asking me about the context for the Toshiki and Ren story, why Ren decides to go talk to him etc., and I am like errm well the context for that story is that someone requested a fic about Toshiki and Ren. ...On second thought it should be obvious why Ren talks to Toshiki as opposed to Juubei or Sakura: he's the one she knows best. In animeverse anyway. Bah.)

ah, so Tres is actually as main/semi-main a character as the anime makes him out to be, and they're not pulling episode 2 from out of thin air? have only read a sort of running summary of the first book, but it seemed rather odd how he hardly appears in there and yet has more screen time in the anime's opening sequence than anyone else.

Yeah, Trinity Blood is kind of stupidly complicated. T_T Basically it's two series, not one: Reborn On Mars (ROM) and Rage Against Moons (RAM). ROM is kind of like the main novel series, and RAM are standalone short stories (I think... at least the first RAM book is all short stories). ROM and RAM were published simultaneously but they're not always set at the same point in the timeline, so the problem is, in what order are you supposed to read them. =_= I always kind of assumed you're supposed to read the first ROM book then read the first RAM book, but the first two eps of the anime are RAM stories (there are five in the first book). Then apparently they're going to do the plot of the first ROM novel with Esther and Dietrich etc. starting from ep 3. Which may be according to story/chapter publication date or, uhh, GONZO is on crack. See Peace Maker Kurogane.

Tres is definitely there in ROM though. :D

It should, indeed, be obvious to anime people. (Maybe these're Asian or perhaps French-reading manga people commenting? I dunno, while I'm sometimes tempted to reply to ff.net feedback I rarely bother to try. I mean, they don't see any notification that you've replied to it even if it's logged-in feedback.)

I so ought to work on my Ren and Toshiki fic. But of course s/Ren and Toshiki/many, many other things also/.

...I still don't have a Ren icon.

Yeah, it could be manga-only people, I didn't think of that. Sometimes I see people who reply back by reviewing their own story, but I don't want to do that (and they won't be notified anyway), so I guess I'll just leave it alone. It does throw a wrench in the "it's polite for an author to reply to thoughtful feedback" idea, though. XD

I think when I renew my extra icons in June I'll actually sit down and make an icon for every series/character I talk or fic about often. XD

I wish they had started with ROM too. The first couple stories of RAM seemed pretty skippable to me. I've had suspicions that they would change Esther's personality since the cast was announced. Noto Mamiko isn't at all how I imagine Esther sounding. I think the RAM short stories were published in the magazine before coming out in book form, so if you were following the magazine you would have read them before ROM. I've been reading the books in the order they were published(ROM1, RAM1, ROM2 etc.)and that seems to work pretty well. RAM starts a few years before the start of ROM, but from what I hear the anime is going to smush the two timelines together.

Ah, gawd, the Great Timeline Smushing. It really is Peace Maker Kurogane all over again. XD;; Thanks for confirming I'm not reading them in the wrong order.

Well, y'know my verdict on the Toribura anime. :)
監督切腹
And the reasons for starting with RAM are purely commercial. No point in seeking explanation in timelines and/or publishing dates. They simply wanted an in-the-face opening episode, which would have the Crusnick transformation, the airships and all the other 'cool' elements in there to entice the new viewers.

I'll reserve judgment until I see what they do with Star of Sorrow. XD I mean if it was the treatment of the RAM stories that pissed you off, I haven't even begun reading those yet. This week if I can scrape some time together.

(And eh, is definitely not worse than Mirage. ^^;)

And it worked, too, so...

You do not have to read them, to understand that the lolicon-fest, that was the second episode, did NOT come from the RAM novel. Do not tell me that you actually enjoyed that!? Oh, no... could it be... all these years, under a virtual persona of a sophisticated half-Chinese Canadian girl, hid a sarariman lolicon ero-oyaji from the suburbs of Sendai!? :))

And it worked, too, so...
At the expense of the quality of the series, at the expense of much greater
payoff circa episode 4 were they to start with ROM. Should we really be cheering that?

I read the story. I... now see what you mean. Mind you I didn't so much like the anime version as I was indifferent; lolicon saabisu is so far off my personal radar that I didn't register it at all until you pointed it out. *g*

Of course, now I see you've sworn off the anime altogether, so never mind. XD

See which of the elements of the original short story director chose to focus on, understand how his head works and what key would the rest of the series be in. It was a basic mental excercise, which Sabina-dono, whom I so much admire. should have been able to do all by herself. ;P
And lolicon service is a pretty fatal sign, implying that the director is , mentally, about 12 years old.

Smirk, m'dear, all you like. ;) I will see you sing a different tune after you watch #3. It starts with a shower scene. It gets stupefyingly worse. Only the people who read the novel can feel the true extent of DA PAIN, but guess what - you are one of them. ;P

Hello, I found your livejournal recently and was amazed to see that there was another person in Montreal who likes to read Japanese books. (I read mostly manga because I can't handle novels so well yet.) May I add you to my friends list?
