Mirage of Blaze 15
May. 3rd, 2005 10:30 pmIs awesome. XD Will probably be done reading tonight.
Book 15 takes place - eight? I think - months after the end of book 14. The Uesugi get wind of an unusual nexus in the spiritual forcefield around Kumamoto, but all the spies they send in get offed, so Chiaki and Takaya decide to investigate personally. The spiritual "magnet" being somewhere on the grounds of Kojou High School (formerly Catholic-run and built over Sengoku Jidai castle remains, natch), Chiaki and Takaya... infiltrate the school. Chiaki being now 22 or so, can pass as the substitute math teacher you wish you had (his classroom methodology is reputedly uhh unorthodox but 51% of the student body couldn't care less); Takaya is incapable of passing as a teacher any way you look at it, and thus is relegated to student. しかも二年生 - what, were they afraid he couldn't keep up with the senior-year course? I bet you anything the others all have university degrees a couple of times over while Kagetora never managed to get so much as a high school leaving certificate in a century of not trying. Naoe can drive him around and pay for his meals, he can damn well solve polynomials for him.
To the surprise of none, the school is weird. Three teachers have died in the past six months, the halls are filled with spirits to such an extent the students are trailing little clusters of ghosts everywhere they go, the seitokaichou is a doll-like possessor named Mikuriya Juri who runs the place like a cult (complete with Gregorian chant blasting from the intercom system). Takaya and Chiaki take a day or so to figure most of this out. That night Chiaki returns to the hotel a bit soused from his welcoming party, and toting a dartboard.
Takaya: What the hell is this?
Chiaki: This? It's a dart game set. I sent one of the female students to find me one. For some reason they're amazingly helpful.
Takaya: But why?
Chiaki (vaguely): Oh, practice.
[some days later]
Takaya: (What is attracting these spirits to the school? Is Ryuuzouji behind this? Some Oda general? What are Mikuriya and her student council plotting? Is their purpose related to Yami Sengoku, or is it a different matter entirely? What was the "serpent of light" Nakajima-sensei the math teacher saw the day before he collapsed? Who is Nezu Kouichi and how does--)
*a stick of chalk flies through the air and hits him smack dab in the middle of the forehead*
Chiaki: Ougi! Pay attention! Don't think because you're a transfer student that you're going to get off easy, you have to listen twice as hard to catch up with the curriculum!
Takaya: What the--
Chiaki: *holds chalk menacingly between fore and middle finger* Do you want to get hit again? If not, come up to the board and solve problem #47F in the enriched math genius section of your textbook.
Takaya: (......Nagahide you coward, you are so fucking dead.)
In conclusion, Chiaki wins at life. XD
POST LATE AFTERNOON COFFEE BREAK EDIT -- Naoe wins at life too! -10 evil student society points and yellow card to Ougi class 2B for public indecency omg what. XD XD XD

Date: 2005-05-03 10:24 pm (UTC)Their dynamic as Chiaki/Takaya is so different from the Nagahide/Kagetora vibe in the prequels; it's rather weird to read both at the same time. Not in a bad way, but just in a "love to be a fly on their wall for 400 years" way. ^^
(Sooo, have you crushed the temptation or have you peeked at Vol.20 again?)

Date: 2005-05-04 03:28 am (UTC)Actually I wonder about Nagahide, given some of his scenes with Kagetora here and there (including in the current book). I'm starting to think Kagetora just shouldn't be allowed to have guys hanging around him ever. Nagahide's probably the character with the highest "immunity" so to speak but he's not invulnerable to whatever demonic pheromone it is Kagetora gives off. ^^;
(No, I haven't looked again, I'm reading it properly. It's not a hardship, they always end up making out every time they see each other anyway. XD;;;)

Takaya: 'M sorry, Chiaki. I'll try harder and stop being a wuss giving you trouble. *disappears into bathroom*
Nagahide: ...*TRIES NOT TO FEEL KIND OF HAPPY*
IIRC the exact text was his mune ga atsukunatta!11! Oh, Nagahide. He was making me go even more woobie on him than I usually do by the time 18 and 19 rolled around; my reactions are proportionate to the amount of No I Don't Care About The Uesugi OR Kagetora AUGH DAMMIT YOU IDIOT DON'T DIE ON ME he pulls. XD

Date: 2005-05-04 07:43 pm (UTC)But seriously, Kagetora in actually answering Nagahide's nosy personal questions shocker! I can only imagine the look on Chiaki's face. XD;;

Takaya can ask Naoe doing his homework because we all know Naoe love to do anything for his Kagetora-sama. XDDDD

Date: 2005-05-04 04:48 am (UTC)Yes, he does, alrighty! I laughed much at that scene~ Nagahide always tries, in all sorts of ways, to get his own back after tolerating Kagetora for all those long looooooong years... And more than half of the time, he succeeds. XD XD XD

Public indecency...XD That's the perfect term to describe it~ I was smirking evilly throughout the whole scene where Takaya was groped thoroughly...
