Electronica week on [livejournal.com profile] audiography and granted it's only Monday, but no one's posted Vitalic yet; is he such a well-kept secret outside of French nightclubs and ILM? Am almost tempted to fill the gap. OK Cowboy is so awesome I keep sl0ring it to people even if I suspect they won't get it - two years ago I wouldn't have gotten it - it falls squarely within my sister's accusation that my favorite music is "monotonous" and "sounds like beeping computers". XD But if you have the least fondness for Daft Punk (for example), give it a try. I'm forcibly restraining myself from posting the entire album plus assorted tracks and remixes.

Vitalic - Poney Part 1: "Poney" is how you write pony en français, in case anyone's wondering about the 'e'. Supposedly the lyrics are from the POV of one of those overworked ponies used to give children rides at fairs, and the vocoder bits do sound quite downtrodden and sad, but I can't tell at all what the words are. It's a (famous) electro dance track, not... whatever that description makes it sound like. XD

Vitalic - My Friend Dario: songs that start with car noises = automatic win. Cis semi-suggested this for an Initial D FST (semi- because she said electro-house isn't far enough from eurobeat to be satisfying remix-wise). As a bonus tip, the video can be streamed here. It's awesome because completely obvious. The bits where you have to do a booty dance, it has girls in bikinis doing a booty dance; the bits where you have to headbang and play air guitar, it has dudes headbanging and playing air guitar. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Vitalic - Repair Machines: the vocals (for lack of a better word) on this remind me of The Mogs' "Kelly Blame", but I dunno if that says anything to anyone else...

Vitalic - Trahison: marginally slower than the others, possibly my favorite song off the album. Vitalic's knack is for sublimely cinematic melodies that are repetitive in the same way as you'd walk out of a darkened movie theatre humming a snippet of the film's main theme: you don't remember how the rest goes, but all the emotional impact is there.

Non-Vitalic tunes:

ALI PROJECT - Cheri Cheri: from the CLAMP Campus Detectives Vocal Collection, which found Ali Project at the most twee and sugary end of their gothloli pop-dom. They've moved away from this sound, but I still love it. Let us not forget that the very first mp3 I posted back in my Pitas blog days was "Water Drop" off this very album. XD

Matsutoya Yumi - Reality: Sotoshigoto (lit. "outside work") is, like, the best idea ever. It's probably a function of the insularity of the Japanese music industry that m-flo were able to release such a thing, but can you imagine a compilation of all the hit singles the Neptunes produced for other artists? A comp of all the tracks on which Missy guested? ...Gah.

Matsutoya Yumi is a grand doyenne of jpop. "Reality" is a non-single track off her 2001 album Acacia; there's nothing jpop about it, it's... funky. Like something Kanno Yoko might have written for Cowboy Bebop. I don't know if m-flo had a hand in writing/arranging/producing it, or if that's just Lisa on backing vocals or what. But it's the current song I'm obsessing over from the m-flo folder (a regular occurrence). I have it as part of my fledgling GitS:SAC fst - something to do with the lyrics.
