petronia: (music)

I needed the song because it's on the Naoe x Kagetora FST. Should've seen that one coming ahaha. Last night I all of a sudden decided it was done - funny how you just know when a story or mix CD is done, isn't it - and of course I had to post, because I'm incapable of really sitting on anything. Turned out I didn't have that Poe album on my work computer, through what I can only describe as gross oversight... Well. Anyway. I always post my FSTs a couple of days in advance to the flist, and it's nearly February. Mostly, though, I want other fans of the series to give this a spin. Download it, listen to it from beginning to end, tell me what you think. Not because the tracklisting is in any danger of changing at this point ^^;;; but because I'd like a consensus on how much explanation I should provide. I.e. I think it's obvious, but is it really?

Description: bedroom electronica to alt-pop to goth rock. Dark cool tonalities. Claustrophobic. If you're on a sugar high, this mix will get rid of it. Wordy, i.e. it's all about the lyrics. Nevertheless the ordering of the tracks is grounded more in the music than in narration/chronology. If you pay attention you will find recurring metaphorical imagery, no less. The quotes I put under each track are NOT why I chose the song. (Confused yet?)

***

1. The Cure - More Than This
Giving me the world
You know I can't resist
Something more than this

2. David Usher - Black Black Heart (Morning Orbit Version)
Search for pleasure search for pain
In this world now I am undying
I unfurl my flag my nation helpless

3. The Notwist - Pick Up The Phone
Life is a loop, you're in a room
Without a door
Pick up the phone
And answer me at last

4. New Order - Vicious Streak
You have a vicious streak for someone so young
You're like a solar flare in the rising sun

5. Natalie Imbruglia - Identify
Lately it's your love
That's condemnation enough

6. Cocco - Kumoji no hate
If only my eyes had never known light
There were things I'd rather not have seen
If only my body had never known you
There would have been no memories to draw me out

7. Depeche Mode - It's No Good
Don't say you want me
Don't say you need me
Don't say you love me
It's understood

8. Poe - Wild
What would you cry for
Swallow all your pride for
What would you
Go wild for?

9. A Perfect Circle - Blue
Call it aftermath, she's turning blue
And I just sit and stare at you

10. Cocco - Kemono michi
For wounds, rain
For flowers, poison
For me, a sword's blade
For lies, punishment
For the moon, teeth
For you, your just deserts

11. Vixtrola - Gunboat
What is lost may not ever be found
I can't remember your face
I can't remember

12. The Tea Party - The Messenger
Got a letter from a messenger
I read it when it came
It said that you were wounded
You were bound and chained

13. Depeche Mode - Judas
Make up your mind for me
Walk the line for me
If you want my love

14. Sweetback featuring Aya - Lover
If there's a way
Out of this maze
Hand me the key

15. Utada Hikaru - Deep River
I search for you now
Who time and again change your form
To alight before me

16. Laura Burhenn - Memory
When the sun hangs on the horizon
Resting in the tops of the golden trees
I will wait for you to slip into the night
When the boughs break

Don't know much about the series, but I love the playlist. It's very dark and gloomy, obsessive-in-that-sakura-kind-of-way set of songs. It's helping me get rid of the cute Japanese songs stuck in my head from playing Katamari Damacy, too. (It's also making a very nice third to the other two Valentine's lists I'm putting together. ^_^) Thanks for the music! (Is there any special reason for the quotes? If you put them all together, it makes a beautiful poem.)

Do you have/want proper mp3s of the Katamari Damacy soundtrack? XD

The quotes are passages I particularly like and/or provide a guideline as to what point in the series timeline the song refers.

Your melodic progression from song to song is, as always, completely perfect, utterly perfect. I HATE and LOVE you for using "Black Black Heart", in that utterly HATEFUL LOVING way that is so appropriate for Mirage of Blaze. I think if you were to post this for mass consumption, you probably would want to put some explanation for some songs you used, because yes, they're obvious, but at the same time, the important thing is what the o brilliant Sabina is thinking about them. XD

This FST depresses me. Quite possibly more than I expected it would. Especially the last song. and uh. the first song. and you know. everything.

I really like "Vicious Streak" by New Order, by the way. Uh. Just felt like I had to tell you that. It's ridiculously fitting and ridiculously catchy. Would not have thought "Lover" by Sweetback would appear, but I suppose... XD

It is great, as everything from you usually is. yes.

Am scared of this tracklist, and convinced anew that MoB is not for the likes of me. Am also thoroughly disoriented as "Kemono Michi" is werewolf!Remus and "Deep River" is HakuSen. XD;

Ahahaha, I thought you might be. XD And um yes, I mean no, you would not like it. Especially since it's basically a process of taking something you would like and stomping on it thoroughly.

...hah. I thought the Cure song sounded like one I should know, and lo and behold when I had a listen it was from the X-Files soundtrack. XD

I'm currently listening to it, but I think I'll need to search out complete lyrics to really get a feel for what you were going for because I just can't catch meaning from sung words. The feel of the songs so far (I'm on The Messenger now, going in order) are dead on. And since I already knew Kumoji no hate, I can say that is so perfect it's not even funny. Cocco has strange and sudden brutality in her songs that works really well with this pair.

But now I feel rather down, between this soundtrack and your commentary on book 10. *sigh*

This is horrendously late, and you probably won't even see it. But. I make a point of commenting every time I download something, so . . .

Once again, I'm impressed with your ability to create mixes that are dynamic without sacrificing coherency. It's probably because you use them to tell a story instead of just setting a particular mood.

Also, I think I may be in love with Cocco now.
