Saiai no anata e - chapter 1

So this is a translation. >_> <_< It's... more an artistic project than a let-the-fandom-know-what's-happening project per se, if that makes sense, though what I think I'm trying to accomplish is give a sense in English of what it's like to read these books. Flavour of prose and so forth. As such I've actually been poking at it for a long time, off and on since I finished reading the thing. Finished up the first chapter today. More or less because I'm not cut out for vacations in which I'm holed up in the house; if my sleep schedule weren't completely out of whack I'd've gone into work today. I have to be productive <i>somehow.</i> (Yesterday I finished coding and uploaded the first version of <a href="http://www.muhaitang.com ">my uncle's website.</a> Had to research online; you'd think he could be bothered to send a booklet scan for all his CDs. :P)

The translation itself needs to be polished. I should really be more systematic about translating certain terms versus others, for instance, not to mention romanization, but then with this series I barely know what they're talking about at times, let alone the accepted English rendering. That and the usual sort of mistakes I make due to failure to read properly. It turns out all this formatting crap follows when copying from Word to Semagic, though (x_x), so HTML it is.

Wow, overall a very nice translation. Though the feel your translation gives to the work is different from what I perceive reading the original, I really like it. I suppose the difference could be attributed to how each individual reader perceives and processes a narrative. Are you planning on doing the entire volume or just that first story?

The idea is to do all of Saiai no anata e, I guess, but I have no idea how long it'd take me. ^^; Glad you liked it, anyhow! I do tend to chew up the text when I translate rather, it's transparent to me but other people always tell me the style changes. ^^;

Gosh, this is great! *_* After weeks of reading tantalizing MoB posts I finally rented the anime thinking I could handle the Japanese and, like, TOTALLY couldn't. Gave up and decided to wait till I had subs around the time that everyone suddenly seemed to be Takaya's brother. (A few key moments were clear enough through the mist of historical explanations to, uh, get my attention however, including, "Watashi wa anata no inu desu!") (have to love a seme who speaks in masu/desu tai and calls himself your dog while throwing you up against the wall.) Thanks for hooking me in to this GRAND PASSION epic and great to have a bit of novel translated!

Yeah, the historical explanations are tough going even with subs (and, I hear, to actual Japanese people ^^;). It's because the anime tends to leave out umm minor unimportant details such as the fact Kagetora was adopted and his birth family doesn't call him by that name.

Naoe is a mess (I think typically Takaya has to lose a couple of items of clothing before Naoe loses the desu/masu). But it's a fascinating car-wreck sort of mess, which I suppose is the point. Glad you liked, anyway. XD < -- maestro sl0rer

Rent the OAVs and you'll see Er, do you want me to upload fansubs for you, or is that impracticable? x_x

I am putting on jacket, hat and woolly scarf and heading out to rent the OAVs this second, that is the sound of the door slamming in my wake.

Can probably download subs from one of the usual suspect torrents sites but if unsuccessful may beg later?

Btw, a friend of mine who's doing a website for his artist mother also asked me for that "scrollbar script" of yours. But in the most neo-purist fashion, he wants to deal with it with DIVs. Know if that's possible?

Phew, that's a pretty site! I think my webdesign skills are done for good. I lost it all to such "designs" (http://bioinfo.sus.mcgill.ca/mimm386/) (regressing from this (http://bugs.sus.mcgill.ca/nostalgia/) (Spring 2002) to this (http://cool.mcgill.ca/)(Spring 2004), *sigh* - the trend is so noticeable).

DIVs are the way, apparently. Check this site: http://www.asianculturelink.net/artists/en_web/comp_acl.htm

(I'll probably clone it once I figure it out. :P)

I went through a design slump too. Maybe we should both be buying design books like the one Erin got me for Christmas...

Thank you for translating this. Is this the scene at the school in episode 7 of the TV anime? (I think it might be, since there's a (very) brief flash of what I think is the Woman in White at the bit where Kagetora and Naoe pacify the 13 generals, but what do I know.)

in his heart of hearts he would've liked to be driven around in the Tachibanas' Ferrari Testarossa

Oh, wouldn't we all. XD

Oh, yes, episode 7 is 'Saiai no anata e', except sort of chopped up and rearranged into a 20-minute condensed version as reenacted by bunnies. And gah, they actually have the conversation with Kousaka in there. Had forgotten completely about it (due to not understanding a single word leaving his mouth re Ikkoushuu and Mitsuhide no doubt). No wonder I have such a strong mental image of that coffee shop. XD;;

AND TETRAPOTS. AHHHHHH~ *is mysteriously traumatized*

OMG Date Masamune and Katakura Kojuurou. No memory of this either. It's plain to see I didn't understand a word of what was going on the first time I watched it. :D;;;

*coughs* Erhm.

I've been pointed out time and again by [livejournal.com profile] pornkings to your LJ for Mirage of Blaze summaries and translation since I've probably burned her ears on my fangirling over the series. XD So I finally got to doing just that.

The summaries are wonderful and it just made me wish that the novels would be legally translated by some publisher. But I am somehow doubting that it might happen any time soon.

Oh, God, how I wish I could read Japanese. Thank you so much for this translation! It adds so many more layers to what we see in the anime...

(Naoe is such a mindfuck sweetheart. We really don't get to see any of the playfulness in the anime.)
