It's caveat lector is all. XD The holodeck one was particularly egregious but replicators are the most common. Of course the reboot threw all the history out the window anyway so.

It threw history out, but I still didn't see any evidence of either of those techs. As a writer I'd assume they hadn't been invented yet, since Spock!Prime hadn't yet had time to tell everyone about them.

The fact I know what you speak of probably says much about my geek-cred.

I'm going into this fandom with the firm statement that this is a parallel world and god-knows what Spock Prime let them know in the way of technology. It probably says a lot about me that I’m justifying fanfics’s internal canon. This can only end in tears. Or delusional rant on my part.

I've got the tech bits drummed into me for some reason, but not the plot nonsense they actually get up to. Me reading the fic is like "Hey, how come everyone agrees on a name for this AU scenar--ohhhh oh it's canon."

Replicators are convenience and most of the new fans have obtained by osmosis a random survey of Trek, so I suppose it's not too unreasonable that TNG got mixed in there somewhere. (I think I made the same mistake some time back, just by watching the series back to back).

That said I do wish more research would be done. *g*
