Just watched Hero with sororial unit. That was an... interesting... take on the First Emperor of Qin. I mean, it's almost like calling Napoleon an architect of the EU, isn't it? XD But the film itself was beautiful. The autumn leaves scene about blew my mind. And Tony Leung had so much hair. ...I'm sorry, I know that's a shallow comment, but I'm used to seeing him in triad films. ^^; (And saints alive, the angst. It was like watching In the Mood for Love - three times!)

Spent quite a bit of time biking around Côte-Saint-Luc and wandering around the park today, under a pounding noonday sun. I don't burn easily - and am not visibly sunburnt even now - but my arms are a bit flushed and itchy in a low-level, not-quite-there fashion. Of course everything is distracting me from writing. ^^;

I wonder why you're so into Chara today. (If somehow I could control your moods through what I put up. XD)

But it's exactly that, I had to make myself a new CD for the night out at the Old Port, because I can't possibly run the Fan Soundtracks (which often contained to numerous extremely angry pieces of American alternative rock). So I *had* to burn Pink Martini, Chara, and some other stuff (notably that "Dream a little dream of me") onto a single CD to replace the Fan Soundtracks, the teary Chinese schtuff and the remnants of music you gave me last winter. Basically whatever I burnt was sort of soft and walk-next-to-still water feeling -except there's always so many people at the Old Port to actually get that feeling. o_O; It's the imagination that counts, I suppose. :D

But then you said you were not that sort of person who's influenced by the music one listens to (or are you?). - So am not actually taking any credit, juss teasin'. :P

I can't actually figure it out for myself. Sometimes I feel as I was compelled to listen to one kind of music *because* of the current mood, very obviously today when I got fed up with getting all this rock when I shuffle-played my 'amp.

I would be fascinated to hear what your take on some of these STs are, Ced, since you're pretty far removed from the whole fan aspect of the soundtracks. (Or at least that is my understanding.) I could be v. wrong XD (And if you want access to some of my STs that I don't post on FST, either hit up Sabina for or friend my journal.) Fellow music sl0res must stick together, wot wot.

Indeed, I'm an occasional anime watcher. I confound movies and anime, so if I don't watch many movies, then I don't watch many animes. I think I pretend it's in the cultural background, although that isn't really true, 'cuz I live in Quebec. :D

I can't tell you off the top of my head which of the soundtrack I've listened to so far in an ordered fashion. But I can tell there's a trend to it, and I suppose if you tell me it's supposed to be a soundtrack to something, I could try to make up those scenes with anonymous animanga characters (maybe only because I've come across some of those fan music videos). But, you know, if I were to sit down with an anime fan, I could probably come up with a word description of the particular scene evoked by music.

(Ah, we could work something out here, for the music sharing part. XD Do you have your music up on a server somewhere?)

I'm of two minds about the whole soundtracking thing. I think it always helps to have knowledge of the source material, i.e. you always enjoy the movie soundtrack more when you've actually seen the movie and the bits where the music is used in the movie. On the other hand, I think there should be some coherency sans knowledge of the source, cos if you're clever enough, you're telling a story of sorts with the music as well.

I have hosting from a friend of mine, but I may be stopping people from accessing folders completely because whenever I post soundtracks on FST or generally, bandwith suckage is a problem. I posted a soundtrack for one day, and I lused up somewhere in the neighborhood of 1-2 gigs. I understand some people just use these soundtracks as a way to get interesting sounding songs, but those people really piss me off. A lot. If you want mp3s, go to an mp3 blog, damnit. This is a SOUNDTRACKING COMM. XDXDXDXD

One day I will reach zen about the whole mp3 stealing stuff. In the meanwhile...XD And I can just friend you so you can view the entries even if you aren't friending me. Twill solve the problem nicely enough.

Hero is an interesting movie, isn't it? XD;
I, OTOH, am more used to seeing him on wuxia/kungfu movies, so seeing him on Hero was... gah, nostalgic. ^_________^

And yes, the angst. O__O

My elder bro kept joking that Hero needs a video game, the characters already come with different colors and Sky can be the secret character you unlock. :b Bonus rounds include chopping up bamboo books, paint brushes and random drapery. (It was also hard concentrating on the movie with him relaying gossip from his friends about how the girl who plays Moon slept with the director and hence her larger role throughout. Not to mention his next film which features her. -_-)

Like you, I think the take on the first emperor was interesting but a bit, erm, sentimentalized. -_-;;

Tony Leung!!! ^^ That man has only gotten better with age!

Well, it's Zhang Yimou - I am somehow not overly surprised. XD;; But yes, I was thinking that's it's not quite your usual wuxia film either, not so much because of the artsiness (Ashes of Time was even artsier) but because of the period. What's the Western equivalent, Alexander the Great in a rapier skirmish?

My dad pointed out that Qin Shi Huangdi is demonized in history at least partly because he did things that are unforgivable to any historian-scholar. ^^; But if you think about it, it's likely that his view of himself would have been something along the lines of what Zhang presented. It's a sobering thought, that the 2,200 years of unified writing we're all so proud of began so bloodily. And the French thought they had trouble with the Metric system.

That's right, the movie is all inside the emperor's mind. But we've underestimated one person: Sky. In the lesser known histories is the version in which his friends are ruthlessly executed by Qin Shi Huangdi, and he must avenge them. In addition, he not only knew Nameless, but they were lovers!

2,200 years of unified writing we're all so proud of began so bloodily

When I got to that part of the movie, I couldn't help but to laugh my head off. Its utterly serious, and yet "I'll have one system of writing. Isn't that a cool idea?" And we get Jet Li's awe struck face. One system of writing? The mind cannot fathom such ease and practicality!

I'll take anything of hers I can get right now. XD Assume I have "Strange Fruits", "Violet Blue" and anything you've passed along to date. (And a bunch of individual tracks here and there, but we'll let that slide... Must put "A Scenery Like Me" on buy list. Buy list is getting very long.)

For the record, I've always been more into Chara's ballads than the poppier numbers. But I am developing a newfound wub for the tracks that sound like teh Human League.

I love Hero. And yes, the leaves scene was amazing, that RED. The color schemes! And the ending scene, with the part with the outline of the man cut into the door with arrows, and the cloth hanging curtains and stuff. *is in love with that movie*

Ahahaha. I was obsessed with In The Mood For Love as well. ^^;;
