Music post, again
Jan. 16th, 2004 05:32 pm(5:30 on a Friday. Why am I still here?) Listening to those TeniPuri singles, finally, hahaha. The trend of having the b-sides actually being better than the a-sides continues apace. Atobe's Greek Word Song... gives me a tip-of-the-tongue feel, as if I should have some spectacularly clever observation to make - more witty than "rather like a good T.M.Revolution number", which is obvious. Ah vell, it will come to me. XD Tezuka's, meanwhile, just proves that the only music he ever listens to are his mum's old cassettes. (It has never been a better time to be an 80s pop geek, and this appears to hold true even for tenisu muziku. Even if when one says "80s pop" one does not necessarily think first of enka/folkpop with harmonicas in, but for Asian pop it's a retro sound, and one I like.)
...You know what I'd to do, if I ever have time to start another big project? (Ha. Ha. Ha.) A pop blog devoted to jpop/anime music, written with an attempt at the verve and snark and music-journo-wank-type referentialism that I've come to expect from pop blogs. Nothing resembling that exists in English, really, except Shiroi Heya, and even that is not quite the same... tone. The people who blog the Avex jpop I slurp up tend to describe the songs in terms like "upbeat, but sort of calm at the same time," which tells me exactly nothing. >_>
Kurtis Mantronik Presents Chamonix - How Did You Know
Kurtis Mantronik Presents Chamonix - 77 Strings (Club Mix)
They're actually the same song, more or less (a reissue was involved somewhere along the line). "How Did You Know" is the vocals version, and... it just cries out Ibiza. ^^; Somehow manages to be both disco and trance at the same time, in a way that makes me wonder if I can get away with calling it acid house or balearic, except it's last year's track and I have no actual idea WTF I'm talking about when it comes to dance music. Effin' Kamio's obviously infected me with his taste. Incredibly jaw-dropping ace, though, as these things go.
Still for the people who dl'ed Kamio Mikkusu:
globe - Many Classic Moments (Epilogue)
globe - Hitorigoto
A slow version of "Many Classic Moments". Not so much acoustic per se - as it's got dreamy synth washes all through - but mostly featuringSeguchi Touma's TK's piano as accompaniment. "Hitorigoto"'s perhaps the best song off Lights2, and is "slow" in a way that's designed to accomodate a trance club remix. In and of itself it has a soaring, soothing feel, like you'd put it on to calm airplane takeoff jitters.
(Actually Seguchi Touma is Asakura Daisuke with chunks of TK's biography folded in. XD Ryuuichi's very much Utsunomiya Takashi, tho'.)
For teh Jazzler specifically XD:
Park Ji Yoon - Sung In Shik
Y'know, I really think you people win the pan-Asian stakes. Koreans've got the best idoru. XD
EDIT -- last notes for evening before I turn in: watched the first half of TeniMyu with Tania and Erin. As suspected, the more plastered (on cheap merlot) one is the more one enjoys this experience. Began to attempt a soundtrack mix for the St.R episodes, only to realise that they're all Erasure songs. O_O Rebound from the previously displayed synthpop-restraint. ("She Won't Be Home"! I mean, discounting that Yuuta isn't a girl. And "Love To Hate You" of course. I've always felt Andy Bell was "acting a character" in that one, PSB-style, and claimed facetiously that it was fanon!Draco. But it could just as well be Mizuki.)
