I... don't know how people can write GetBackers fic with the magazine serialisation where it is. O_O Props to ye, Wen and Ex. These days I open up the Word document(s), look at the most recent sentence, go "..." and close it again. GB being GB, I'm in near-total denial regarding character um you know and all that, but Fangirl Right Thinking will only get one so far. I just want the current story arc to be over, the other shoe and all pairs of boots dropped, so as to know whether I have a choice about writing devastating angst or not. T_T

...I should go back to the translation. Should, could.

(This post is mostly to say hi to the new people, because I've been having someone friend me, like, every other day. I am flattered but have to wonder, 'cos it's not that interesting, I don't think. XD;; Unless you heard through the grapevine that there were mp3s to be had from time to time, in which case I don't blame ya.)

EDIT -- And keep forgetting to mention - Justin lent me Initial D First Stage in proper Japanese fansubs! :O Justin! Who's been making a huge point of never watching anime anymore for, like, the past two years! Even a salted fish sometimes flips, as they say. (More to the point, even Justin has his character fetishes; give him main characters who're insanely powerful/l33t, like FSS!Amaterasu or Takumi, and he'll get caught up in amusement at the other charas freaking out. Wonder if he'd like Prince of Tennis? <3)

EDIT2 -- [livejournal.com profile] serendip's post reminds me, as I am useless even when the object in question is directly in front of my keyboard: Tin, your card arrived. ^____^ 'Tis veddy kewl, I have never gotten anything from the Phillipines before. *ooos lamely over postmark* It's kind of nice that mail from Asia is only now arriving, and that I'm only beginning to send things out myself ^^;;, because it extends the holiday feel. And I'm very much needing that January pick-me-up.

(Y'know that link going around about the Japanese manga publisher who was convicted of obscenity? Guess what I'm doing.

Flist!chorus: "Checking out the Tennipri doujinshi anthologies on said publisher's webpage?"

...Dang, I'm so predictable.)

I'm really hoping I don't have to write resfic... mostly because I don't write resfic, but if I have to, I will.

(I mean, I cut my fannish teeth on Fushigi Yuugi -- I joined the YSML in the hope that Monica Shin someone would write Nuriko/Hotohori and post it there -- and I'm used to this, but... poor Emishi! ;_; On the other hand, I was reading RuroKen when Kaoru "died", and GB is awfully Kenshinish in certain respects, like how villains tend not to stay that way. We also had a lengthy discussion about jagan theory in IRC on account of this, but looking at Shounen Magazine #4/5 doesn't support that idea very well (Ban isn't even in that chapter, let alone meeting Kabuto's or Shido's eyes) and I don't quite think I want it to be resolved that way anyway. I'm not sure.)

And translations would be much appreciated. I mean, my Japanese is about at such a level that I did finally manage to get the gist of what Agi Ryuuhou's power is after flipping through Shounen Magazine issues looking for images to scan to make more icons for RPG!Amon, but anything more detailed than that (such as plotty details about my boy or exactly what he was saying when he was going on about Emishi and believing in people in chapter 42)? Uh, no.

I really don't know at this point how it's going to go, and the suspense is killing me. ^^; That's all it is, really; I can live with characters dying, I just go T_T and move on.

Thing is I trust A&A to give me a good story, but not necessarily to dispense a resolution to said story that works. I didn't think the end of the Card Arc made a whit of sense, but the fanservice derailed me. >_>

I can write GetBackers fanfic due to two things.

1) Intesne Denial

and

2) I haven't read that far yet, so it doesn't exist in my little fandom world. So HAH! Take that, future GetBackers happenings!

yes I'm pathetic. Leave me alone. ::sulks:: I didn't want him to youknowwhat. damnit.

(a) I quite understand the fears over the tragic loss of you-know who (or possibly you-know-who, if he did you-know-what). Sniffle.

(b) Yes, please do translate, she cheers from the sidelines.

(c) I don't suppose you've considered joining the latest GB lj rpg, the Infinite Castle one? I ask purely out of selfishness, as I've signed up as Akabane.

Which reminds me to cheer, and also that I have to write my app. (For the predictable. I was going to stay far away -- who needs to play the same character in multiple RPs, and who else would I play besides the two I have? well, except maybe Kaoru -- but then we got an Idea.)

a) It is not so much fear, for me, as unbearable suspense. I can't deal with these week-to-week cliffhangers; and it makes it impossible for me to write fic, because I don't know what premises I'm supposed to be assuming. ^^;

b) Must learn to manage time better. x_X Also I've been growing more and more dissatified with the style of my final text - will perhaps attempt less literalism.

c) Alas no, as I don't rp. ^^; Online or offline. Nearly all my friends do, but I've never been successful at it - something about the process seems to run counter to the way I write.

a) Mm, point. This is the first time I've had a manga serialising at me this fast, mind; I was getting used to the monthly suspense which is Saiyuki, let alone the coitus interruptus known as Saiyuki Gaiden.

b) No translation is ever perfect. But yours have been very much appreciated.

c) Ah well, just thought I'd ask.

well, I started out in Western fandoms, which tend overall to be status quo until they kill someone, so I'm used to writing in a nebulous time betwixt the cracks of canon events. being said, I'm a teeny bit guiltily relieved, because certain chars being dead would joss me up badly but with the current turn of events I'm still relatively canon-safe...

iffen this arc does end with the current situation maintained, howe'er, I'll most likely hop the next plane to Egypt and settle in for a good round of drinks with Clan Denial...(I have noticed that anime fen are less likely to partake of the water of Lethe when it comes to canon. Odd...but then, when a death actually has a plot-related reason greater than a ratings grab I suppose it's harder to ignore...)

The difference is that in Western TV fandoms, there does tend to be that nebulous time between episodes in which you figure the characters are writing their reports or attending class or whatever it is they do, and then the next episode begins at the next crisis or case. In manga that breather time is often close to non-existent, since what you mostly have are these long story arcs with short time frames, as opposed to episodic interludes. -_-; One of my biggest hurdles when ficcing for animanga series, really.

IME anime fans will tend to "fix" it, as opposed to ignoring it, because the series is often weird enough in itself that tweaks are easily excused. (I mean, why wouldn't Hotohori and Nuriko eventually be reincarnated in the "real" world? ^^;)

Well, GB has the anime-verse, which has plenty of between-episode gaps in which to do whatever you please, and even in the manga there are breaks between arcs of sometimes-indeterminate length (and Ban has his arm in a sling for most of 'em. is he gonna make it out of this one intact, one wonders?) That episodic nature is one of the reasons I started ficcing for it at all; I've been into plenty of shows that I never considered writing for, because the story was complete enough that I had nothing to add and no place to add it.

Western fans also 'fix' as well, but it's quite common to do both - to write stories resurrecting beloveds, but also write other stories as if they're not and never were dead. While as animanga fen do tend to go straight for the fixing - that likely ties into the differences between fanning on episodic vs arc storylines, even more than anime making it easier to bring chars back.

...tho' reincarnation is an interesting thing, because it's not something I've seen practically at all in Western fandoms, but it's a staple of an animanga fangirl's survival package. One suspects this is not so much a cultural thing as that reincarnation in animanga often is canonical - FY being a major case in point. But I wonder if it's a solution the average Western fan would accept...

My brother thinks this is further proof that my fandom friends are losers.

"Who SENDS out Christmas cards in January?"

Which just goes to show how little he knows about the vagaries of gift giving and postal services. The best-laid plans...XD
