Date: 2004-01-06 08:26 am (UTC)Of course I'm pretty much a greenie when it comes to anime and manga (Excel Saga makes for Bad Brain Hurt), so that's to be expected. But could you please include some annotations every once and a while so I can follow along?
Eheh. ^^;
Date: 2004-01-06 08:48 am (UTC)As an example of annotation: the post above should in fact be pretty much incomprehensible to anyone who hasn't read scanlations of the most recent 2-3 volumes of the Prince of Tennis manga. (Which already whittles my friends' list down to less than a dozen people, whom I'm addressing as a vague collectivity.) Out of those dozen people, 3-4 - if I'm lucky - will know that Sanada Yukimura was a warlord who fought against the Tokugawa in the battle of Sekigahara, either because they happen to like Japanese history or because he's, like, shown up in strategy/fighter video games and schtuff. ^_^ (Thus, the fact that Konomi-sensei - the mangaka of Prince of Tennis - named two of his characters Sanada and Yukimura respectively is a gag on the order of naming two characters Bob Winston and James Churchill.) And pretty much no one beside me will have picked up that the character Kikumaru Eiji's "doubling" tennis technique is the second time that Konomi's quoted one of Dougulus Kaien's sword techniques (!) from the cult manga Five Star Stories, because I don't think I personally know anyone else who's read both.
In other words, I talk to myself because I'm a big dork. ^^; But you're welcome to keep reading, really.
