TeniPuri: renewed attempt at relevancy XD
Dec. 29th, 2003 10:15 pmSo yes, had a brief flip through the manga today while waiting for T. It turns out that the reason I don't remember much from the freetalk thingies is that there really aren't all that many of them - what you mostly get at the end of Tenipuri chapters are gag panels (some of which, I suspect, made their way into the anime). There's Seigaku Q&A, Hyotei Q&A, Chibi Mizuki and Butsubutsu!Shinji teaching tennis court etiquette (...don't ask...), the usual popularity/chocolate rankings, the "classmates" contest which I thought was rather brill - albeit a nightmare if you want to introduce random named extras to your fic and are the anal type. (Apparently Kimeru sent in a postcard to be in Momo's class, but they didn't let him win. XD;;;) There's also Konomi talking about the usual schtuff like anime and fanbook info and hanging with the seiyuu at recording sessions - dunno, after Ayamine's let-it-all-hang-out displays of spastic dorkdom everyone else seems a bit corporate in their freetalks. ^^; The one part that amused me awfully was when he talked about guesting at an official Jump convention event of some kind, and getting recognised by a group of fangirls while sitting in the lobby. So then he was like, "I'll be wandering around the floor next time too, watch for me~~" ...And in the next freetalk had to apologise for not, in fact, being around, as security apparently was like, "Will the mangaka guests of honour please refrain from mixing with the crowd, as we are not insured against you being torn apart by rabid fangirls. Not to specifically single anyone out here BUT WE'RE LOOKING AT YOU MR. TENNIS GUY."

Date: 2003-12-29 08:33 pm (UTC)If there was one experience I'd be willing to pay good money for, I suspect that this would rank rather high up on the list. Given what (albeit, rather little) we know about the seiyuu... especially during the Hyotei arc. (Given that Okiayu and Suwabe seem to take hits from the same stash of CRACK, if the radio shows are any clue.) I imagine the experience would be very, very entertaining.
Not to specifically single anyone out here BUT WE'RE LOOKING AT YOU MR. TENNIS GUY.
And that just cracks me up. It's also really kind of sweet that Konomi-sensei seemed to have so much fun with the fangirls--and that they recognized him!

Date: 2003-12-30 07:53 am (UTC)Konomi-sensei seems like quite the good-natured even-tempered type. Though he'd have to be, to draw a weekly SJump series for twenty tankoubon without suffering a nervous breakdown. (I also finally confirmed, flipping through yesterday, that he's the one doing the commentary on the fanart in the back of each tankoubon. So I figure he's seen it all, because the pics of Kikumaru in sailor fuku and kitty ears just amuse him. XD)
Tenipuri apparently broke the Jump record for most boxes of Valentine's chocolates received. Konomi said the head office building smelt of chocolate for a week. I'm not too surprised.
