I suppose that's what this is. Or possibly the fact that pseudo-historical manga likes nothing better than to crank the pathos up to high (well, that and give everyone really inaccurate hairstyles). But I'm getting tired of all this reading.

I'm not going to be able even to pretend to talk about the Youkoden manga in an intelligent manner. ^_^; Failure of kanji-reading, essentially; I can't match up the text to what I know, let alone that I don't know very much to begin with. XD But it's quite pretty and evocative, if fundamentally rather silly. The main character is actually the son of the pair of foxes who were killed to make the rain drum, and takes on Yoshitsune's identity for complicated plot purposes; and the Big Bad is the aggrieved spirit of Sutoku who's become tengu and is intent on manipulating the remnants of the Taira in order to wreak havoc on Yamato. Eheh.

...Sort of feel like getting back to tennis boys. XD;;; Had elaborate theories regarding Peace Maker but realised I'm going to have to sit on everything until the anime is over, because it would be spoilering. (Let alone that the anime is spoilering me by mixing up the timeline. I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt and assuming that they're not just making up filler.) Did read the cute yomikiri at the end of vol.6, with the 'lil demon-angel shota - or is it loli? - which Kurono says she started drawing during the summer vacation of her high-school senior year. By my calculation that makes her younger than me. Of course she complains that her art back then sucked; to what degree of purported "suckage" you can easily imagine. >_> Anyone with the least shred of artistic pride would want to bash her head in with a rock. Except then there won't be any more Peace Maker.

Her mother does assistant work for her. Can you picture? XD

... Sutoku?

Oh, I think I'm in love.... (Yes, when in doubt and in exile, write sutras in blood and become a demon, is what I've always been told....)

Aesthetically pleasing, and likely a better read in Japanese (there's fragments of poetry, here and there, all through). Quite a bit of random shoujo manga hijinks between bad-tempered fox and sweet-natured dancing-girl, though. It took me a bit of staring at the family trees kindly provided to figure out it was Sutoku, and I'm not sure I'd have managed if he didn't happen to be in Ugetsu Monogatari as well. XD

There's the Japanese for you. Deposed Chinese emperors just write immortal quatrains about their Angst.

It leaves a weighty feeling, but that's because the subject matter itself is dense. The manga itself is rather slight.

What really gets me is whether Kurono's mother did assistant work for her Kakashi x Iruka doujinshi. Now that breaks the mind.

You can foist your theories/spoiler me! I don't mind spoilers at all. In fact I am rather greedy for them. They finally translated a new bit up at mangacity, but of course, it is on their IRC channel and I haven't got clue one how to work that. *dies* *forsees clueless fumbling later*

She... ahhhhhh! I cry. See I'd been hoping (even though you said this was her first manga) that she'd oh, been doing doujinshi or something for years and was really this old experienced hand and that was why she was so damn good! Damn these talented young people! *shakes fist*

(her mom! o_O!)
