Fantasia!

Ticket roll as of today (cross-posted to Xanga and Facebook). There seem to be more movies this year but fewer repeat showings, with the result that I won't be able to catch several films due to schedule conflicts. July 8 is earmarked for the Botanical Gardens outing, and July 20 is corporate "fun day".

Cut for list of movies. )

List of feature films is here, trailers are here. I haven't successfully written a Fantasia review since 2005, but if there's anything you think I should see and/or write up afterward for yr edification, suggest away. I'll be adding more films once I sort out the freebie situation. XD

(Where did this come from originally? I keep seeing it. XD)

Lindstrøm - I Feel Space (Freeform Reform Parts 1 & 2) (18.5MB)
Lindstrøm - I Feel Space (Tomba Spezial Space Tiefschwarzturntablerockeredit) (16.9MB)

I've posted the second track before, but now I have the whole single! The Freeform Reform is fairly spectacular - eleven minutes of non-stop space-laser-gold-confetti electrohouse disco extravaganza.[1] I count three parts, in fact, not two: movement I, movement II, reprise. XD

It's completely unlike the "Beau Mot Plage" remix (the thing the Wighnomy Bros played that I thought sounded like St. Germain), which is also ace - will up it some other time. Really Freeform Five belong on my mental list of These Guys Get A Free Pass As They Can Do No Wrong, not sure why they're not there already - not prolific enough to register, maybe? I passed on buying the album in Milan (didn't want the CD knocking around at the bottom of my backpack for two weeks) and have been sort of regretting it since.

Speaking of Lindstrøm, now playing this: Lindstrøm live (laptop) set @ Caviar, Gothenburg August 2006

Link steals bandwidth from Feedelity but that seems to be what it's there for? Let me know if it doesn't work. The set's about 93 minutes long and 106MB wide. ^^; I don't usually bother to share DJ sets because I scare people enough with the 15-20MB mp3s, I think, but this is too good not to link. It contains All The Hits(tm) and you could probably get away with putting it on at parties instead of Pink Martini.

I wish they'd bring Lindstrøm & Prins Thomas over for the Jazz Festival, one of these years; don't know if the organizers have a suggestion box. XD I mean they're one degree of separation from Bugge Wesseltoft and Nils Petter Molvær really, and Jazz Fest had Amon Tobin, Four Tet, even MSTRKRFT. I could see the above set as a Jazz Fest midnight showcase more easily than as a Diskho party, or MUTEK (though as with Fantasia, everything theoretically goes at MUTEK).

[1] Sound quality of the mp3 is also really good, which counts.

Had to split the post due to o'erweening wordiness re: Lindstrøm. ^^;

Gwen Stefani - What You Waiting For? (Jacques Lu Cont Thin White Duke Mix): some of you will note that this was not included in "the motherlode". I kept it back to write about specifically, because it's that good - one of Stuart Price's divine tricks that somehow change the meaning of the song completely, like the TWD remix of "What Else Is There?" Maybe he saves it for Confessions Existentialist Questions on a Dancefloor; this is the closest anyone is going to come to an answer. (11.1MB)

Sometimes I depress myself thinking that this - or Gui Boratto's "Beautiful Life" - is the kind of song New Order ought to be writing, instead of... being split up. Right.

Junior Boys - In The Morning (Hot Chip Remix): speaking of track IDs, this is the sparkly trancey number James Holden used as a palate cleanser at the Nuit Blanche (I'm guessing everyone who was in that room remembers it very, very well). He only played the pretty melodic bit, though, not the part with the odd noises. XD (22.4MB)

Shugo Tokumaru - Young Folks: I told Nat I had a Japanese cover version of this song! It's sung in English though, in a charmingly incomprehensible manner.
