For lo, I am tired. And I didn't get to see Lost In Translation tonight after all, because I was shopping for comic books. Note to self: never do that again when self has an appointment to keep.

...Sighs. My relationship to the French version of Shounen Magazine boils down to the hoary Three Series Rule: to wit, if you aren't following three series or more in the mag, it's not worth buying. I'm not, so I don't. ^^; And it's expensive at that, 15$CAN when taxes are accounted for. That being said there was a wavering moment when I realised they don't run one chapter of GetBackers per issue, but two and sometimes three. They're well into the latter half of the GB vs. Transporters fight! By Issue 6! And if you stack 1 through 6 side-by-side you get that first piece of official colour art on the binding, with Ginji and Ban and Subaru and Hevn-as-mural! ...Okay, I'm okay. I'll wait for the tankoubon like a good girl, now that I know the French translation is closing in on vol.3 and if it's not issued soon it's because they're sitting on it to move magazines, the bastards.

It's an odd French translation, at that. Somehow made all the dialogue sound more kiddie, which isn't an effect I remember from YuuYuu, though the latter had that usual style of transposing-into-Parisian-slang, and sloppily to boot. I think I'll go back and see if it's been censored (from what, the Chinese version? ^^;).

Also, left a comment with Wen just now that somehow spilled over into a tangent on Ichigo, from Bleach. Now, I've not read more than the first half of the first chapter of Bleach, but I've rarely liked the first ten pages of a manga with such immediacy. (Actually I've read those pages three times, in various instances of tachiyomi. Yes, I'm insane, but in my defense I can't buy until it's out in French. Which it now is.) Half of that liking is Ichigo. Ichigo. He's a punk, he's a redhead, he's Haley Joel with a temper - and he's named Strawberry.

GetBackers needs a slinky redhead. Heck, I complained about HikaGo and they gave me one, so why not try asking again? XD

I've been listening to this song on steady repeat. 大人しく責任をとってちょうだい - you know who you are. But I can't help it! The guitars!

$15 can?! i pick up japanese shonen mag for $3.19 US a pop, though my friend tells me it'd be cheaper if i'd just subscribe to shonen mag through kinokuniya or something, as long as i know getbackers will continue to run for a year... ._. i think they sell the US version of shonen jump for 5 bucks US or so, but i don't follow anything in shonen jump, so i'm not sure...

...maybe amon will turn out to be a redhead? XD;;;; he doesn't have a temper, though. just emishi.

man, now that you've mentioned 'bleach', i think ka's going to be all over you like strawberry jam on toast o________o

Amon: doesn't look like it. Redheads typically take screentone. ^^; They don't have to have a temper, though, it's just that about half of them do.

$13CAN pre-tax is ridiculous for a magazine, yes. For that matter Bleach is $13 as well - I'll see if I can find it for cheaper somewhere else. Nana is only $9.50.

Ka likes Bleach? XD Oh, well, I know several people who've been following it for some time...

whee! i lurve bleach, as you probably know. :D given that my japanese sucks ass and i am kurious oranj, what's "tachiyomi"?

right, yes, i think ichigo is probably the biggest draw to bleach for me. it's really strange, because in some ways the story could be so cliched, and the character so stereotypical, but somehow the attitude taito gives ichigo is just... so damn cool that you can't help but be interested? even the art, it's not something i usually like, but there's this certain, ugh, i'd hate to used this term, but edginess and style that appeals to me greatly. and the way ichigo handles things too, even when the "mysterious dark past" is brought up... raah, i don't know. and the dad is insane.

but dammit, ichigo has orange hair. ^_~

whatever happened to kaga anyways... *sniffle*

Tachiyomi is stand-reading. ^^;

The art is great. Surface-simple, but he's got a sure hand with no unintentional distortions, and that slightly off-kilter low-depth "snapshot-capture" framing he does conveys cinematographic motion really well. Certainly it's obvious that it's not a first manga.

Redheads do, technically speaking, have orange hair. Not that Japanese can be natural redheads in that way, but there's no real point in labouring that, uh, point. XD

Interesting to see some other opinions on it. I've just acquired/read the first volume, as it looked interesting. Pretty it isn't. Interesting it is. Some neat ideas and strong characters, and a lot of tension in the art. Glad to know I'm not the only person out there looking into it.
