You know, I can't decide whether Ozaki Yutaka's deceased status makes my obsession with him more or less embarrassing.

Because, y'know, it's all right to be obsessed with hide. But Ozaki Yutaka is the kind of music that should rightly be kind of cheesy fluff, no matter how likeable (80's jpop-rock, à la TMN). And yet it's not. "Authenticity" is one of those terms that's oxymoronic when applied to jpop; you don't judge the schtuff by those standards if you know what's good for you, but... something about this plugs straight into the emotional centre. The voice, or the lyrics. Anyhow I don't post any of his schtuff, because I suspect it doesn't work if you don't understand what he's singing, but I totally understand why a generation of (30-something) Japanese women were traumatised by this guy. XD

Actually I was always totally sure that Nanjou Kouji from Zetsuai was based on Ozaki Yutaka. Simply because he was the only jpop-star circa '88 I'm aware of who was Kouji-like, and... he convinces me.

...Yes, I just had to post to say that. (J, so sorry - dead tired. Pics tomorrow?)

I missed that word the first time around: traumatized, but how? Was it lasting?

(I mean, I know the whole Bronze/Zetsu-ai thing traumatized me, but that was around the, um, limb issue.)

(.... And now I'm stuck with the story of William of Normandy's knights and their impropriety stuck in my head again. Greaaaaaaaaaat.)
