Went to Tania no heya after work, beat her about the head with sjcon stories and GetBackers and drank her Finlandia until I began to inchoately sentimentalise over Ginji's pure-hearted something-or-other. X_X Thank goodness for enabler friends, wot. I think she'll follow me into this fandom purely out of amusement at my downfall.

...Keeping in mind that GetBackers is harder to read than Godchild, and Nana is harder to read than either - ironically - would anyone like chapter translations? Because a fangirl belongs to herself, but her linguistic-fu belongs to the fen. Or something. And I appear to have reached the point where I can actually garner some enjoyment from the reading of Japanese manga, as opposed to it being an unholy chore, so I can't suck as badly as I used to.

...And a Motoni Modoru yomikiri collection, and a Dunk^3 dj anthology I found at Book-Off for 1$ and bought out of bemusement at, well, its existence. Out of these, S to M and Reload have already been translated AFAIK, and I'm basically committed to doing Nana by virtue of the fact that I was weak and bought those volumes, because my sister has to be able to read them somehow.

i wouldn't mind if you translated some of the more complex parts of the card arc, because i don't trust my reading skills, given that i've only had a year of education in the language XD;;;

I haven't got the Card Arc, though! ^^; For GB I've got, er, #20-22 and #10. (Should probably make a list.)

Sasuga had it at sjcon on the 22nd, which is frankly amazing because the back of the book says August 12. o_O (I'm reading it now... want to write LONG HORKING ANALYSIS of the last couple of tankoubon, if only to comfort Wen-tachi re: the angst which I don't think is actually as bad as it appears to be from the outside, due to underlying trust issues, but I'm sick of hearing myself spam my lj over the series, so I can only imagine my poor friends' list. ^^; I should, like, take it to the comms or something.

But who else has read #22's bits? Apart you and me, and I assume Ka?)

i think puppy only has one chapter from v 22. other than that, i don't know anyone else who's been following the current arc in shonen magazine (...which is probably bad, because gb fans on my friends list end up getting second hand accounts of what's going on with my may or may not be correct translations XD;;; )

Wow, is Getbackers really easier than Nana? Because I'm actually finding that I'm getting better at figuring out what the heck people are talking about in the latter, as opposed to just guessing from pretty art. I wasn't going to read Getbackers raw because I thought it would be a lot harder than that.

I find it easier, YMMV. Nana contains a lot more colloquialisms and youth-slang, and I'm looking at it now and whaddyaknow Takumi smokes Gitanes *hahahahaha* sorry where was I? Ah yes. XD Fantasy shounen fighters tend in fact to be more formal, contain more kanji (I'm a Chinese reader) and run off a specialised vocabulary set for all the fight scenes, and most of the interactions in between. Nana is more nebulous, because they're typically sitting around looking meaningfully at each other and could be saying just about anything, and there's a good chance it won't be in the dictionary.

I was surprised at how easy it was for me to read Get Backers, though - my impression of the text being that it's quite complex. Perhaps I've merely improved. ^^;

Does GB have all the furigana, though? The amount of kanji I know, especially when it comes to special attacks, could fill a thimble.
