Aug. 9th, 2003 12:08 pm"Regret" is one of those songs I never think of posting, because I assume everyone has it already. Upon consideration, however, there's no real overlap between the New Order heads on my lj-friends and the, er, wild-eyed GB enthusiasts, and this is for the benefit of the latter. It's a mark of how much I like the series that I'd give it this song, rather than vice-versa.
So here's to the Get Backers with an S:
New Order - Regret
New Order - Regret (New Order Mix)
Get Up Kids - Regret
Color Filter - Regret
(Yeah, when I post a song I like it comes with all the mixes and cover versions. XD The mix is more danceable than the original, along the lines of what you'd expect from New Order, i.e. something like "Bizarre Love Triangle". The first cover is fuzzy-indie-rock-ish, with variable tempo and half the notes swapped out. ^^; The second is actually off a Japanese tribute album, and awash with ethereal Shibuya-kei electronica.)
If I could be in a band I'd play the bass. I blame this on John (oi,
joliefolie, apparently he's going to tour with Duran Duran), but especially on Hooky.

Date: 2003-08-11 09:43 am (UTC)i also have at least a couple of live versions of NO doing this song too, if you want. ^^
as for me and NO, my basic wub stems from the idea that they decided that synths and guitars could get along quite well together, and that neither was necessarily mutually exclusive of the other. i <3 this kind of thinking in general---of course, provided the end results are good. XD
bass is fun to play. i wouldn't mind getting hold of one someday---used to play my friend's (and former bassist's) all the time. it's very soothing in ways nothing else i've ever played is. and at the same time, very visceral, because the strings require so much of you to play. although the same could be said of the guitar i first learned on, for entirely more unpleasant reasons (action much like a cheesecutter...>.<;;;).
hee. ^^ Thus Spake One of Your Many NO H0s. XDXD

Date: 2003-08-12 08:03 am (UTC)I've got the rest of that album - but no live versions. Live versions? XD
(Was watching 24HPP again on DVD, and wishing in fact that I had an acoustic emo version of "Blue Monday" like in the movie. That would be nice. It's such a shoegazing song at heart. XD)

Date: 2003-08-13 07:24 am (UTC)and yes, that's exactly how i'd define a PPM as well---had i been able to find the words. thank you for phrasing it so well; it's difficult to explain to people. so it's fun having conversations about it when it's clear that both parties understand the concept, but are simply lacking the right phrasing to express it. leads to a lot of "uh...yeah. you know what i mean." XDXD
i have at least one live version of "Regret," from Reading '98. i might have more. shall have to check. i bet it's on the 316 DVD that just came out in North America yesterday, though. which has concert footage from Reading '98 and also the entire contents of the Taras Shevchenko video of one of their first post-Ian concerts in 1981, at the Ukranian Home in NYC. "Regret" itself might also be on the 511 DVD (which also came out in NA yesterday), which is the gig from...was it Old Trafford? eep, i've forgotten. anyway, it's from last year. so probably some "Regret," although i wouldn't guarantee it.
what i REALLY need to refind is my stupid BBC Live In Concert disc from Reading 1987. that set started out really well and then slowly fell apart and was in complete shambles at the end. however, there's a really good live version of "The Perfect Kiss" on, which they don't like to do anymore. it's REALLY good. and the cover of the Velvet Underground's "Sister Ray" is pretty ace, too. ^^
