Fine, fine, all of you are right: greatest movie ever. :D (Literally. If Schuldich had read my mind when I walked out of the theatre, he would have seen this:

:D

You know you spend too much time online when you think to yourself in emoticons.)

Really, I dunno about the rest of you people, but pirates make me revert to age seven, which is when I was into them. The only thing that kept me on this side of mental pre-adolescence was Johnny Depp, prettiest buccaneer of the Seven Seas. And now I'm feeling this sort of diffuse craving for one of those out-of-print turn-of-century Boy's Own Adventure novels of a type I haven't actually read for about fifteen years, illustrated by Howard Pyle who - tragically - is too deceased to do justice to Captain Jack Sparrow. Needless to say this is not the kind of fanfiction I'm likely to get, but I suppose I can manage to live with people slashing Johnny and Orly left right and centre. *sighs melancholically*

(Though if anyone had the hots for Jack Sparrow in that movie, it was Commodore Wossface. Day's head start, indeed - why bother with the girl when there are pirates to chase? Sure he wants to do'im violence, but then so do all of the women in the damned film...)

BTW, relevant-persons, Maaya Sakamoto and Steve Conte, "The Garden of Everything"? Is basically a lovely counterpoint-classical-variation on "Stranger in Paradise", from Kismet. Well, Borodin originally, of course.

Drat, aside from the fact the movie comes out in Japan the day I leave (and then, only in roadshow, whatever that means: Hero's coming out the same way), now you're making me wonder if Jack Sparrow isn't metatextual? The way you phrased it. Is the man from some other work?

This is going to bother me for days you realize. Weeks.

Huh? Oh, no, not insofar as I know - apart from the fact that the entire film was one big Howard Pyle oil painting in motion. There should be a word for metatextuality in visuals and not text, but I don't know it.

Ah, yes, I'd noticed the leitmotif cropping up throughout the soundtrack...

Well, seriously. He gave up on his fiancée pretty fast and just went Javerting off. I can see a sort of Klaus/Dorian thing happening there.

(Excessive pirate-phobia just means you're subconsciously attracted.)

So other people do that too? I find myself thinking ":D", "XD" and ">:O" a lot, these days. ...er. Yes, I definitely spend too much time online.

how odd. it would seem a whole slew of ppl watched this movie that i hadn't expect to, including myself. :b

curiously enough, the movie was surprisingly good, no continuity problems, etc. and they pulled off a fairly decent climax, but man, then they sorta blew it with such a choppy epilogue! (as slashy and funny as the ending was)

Teh Requisite Disney Ending, mon. :P I like the rescue thingy though, it was straight out of the first pirate book I ever read back when I didn't speak English too well, which was a translated Spanish picture storybook for kids that featured all the heroes of nautical tales ever, almost like LoEG. Captain Ahab was innit. And at the end the pirates were actually snatched from the gallows by Cornelius van Drebbel in a flying submarine.

(...I can't believe I remember all this.)

flying submarine, eh? no, can't blame you for remembering, a flying sub is fairly memorable.

as for the flashy rescue, well, such a rescue almost demands the rescuer running off with the rescuee, and we wouldn't blame the girl for following after and roaming the wide blue oceans with them. :b

Yo yo rum and a bottle of ho, baby.

God, I loved that movie. With a great and squishy passion.

(Am I the only one who craves AU fic with pirate_queen!Elizabeth/Jack now? Or pq!Elizabeth/Will/Jack/Anna-Maria?)

No, methinks everyone who saw it figured Elizabeth would make a better pirate queen than blacksmith's wife. Someone's gonna write it, that's a different question.

God, were there ever so many beautiful people in that film.
