Pirates of the Caribbean
Jul. 10th, 2003 11:48 pmFine, fine, all of you are right: greatest movie ever. :D (Literally. If Schuldich had read my mind when I walked out of the theatre, he would have seen this:
You know you spend too much time online when you think to yourself in emoticons.)
Really, I dunno about the rest of you people, but pirates make me revert to age seven, which is when I was into them. The only thing that kept me on this side of mental pre-adolescence was Johnny Depp, prettiest buccaneer of the Seven Seas. And now I'm feeling this sort of diffuse craving for one of those out-of-print turn-of-century Boy's Own Adventure novels of a type I haven't actually read for about fifteen years, illustrated by Howard Pyle who - tragically - is too deceased to do justice to Captain Jack Sparrow. Needless to say this is not the kind of fanfiction I'm likely to get, but I suppose I can manage to live with people slashing Johnny and Orly left right and centre. *sighs melancholically*
(Though if anyone had the hots for Jack Sparrow in that movie, it was Commodore Wossface. Day's head start, indeed - why bother with the girl when there are pirates to chase? Sure he wants to do'im violence, but then so do all of the women in the damned film...)
BTW, relevant-persons, Maaya Sakamoto and Steve Conte, "The Garden of Everything"? Is basically a lovely counterpoint-classical-variation on "Stranger in Paradise", from Kismet. Well, Borodin originally, of course.
:D

Date: 2003-07-11 10:51 am (UTC)curiously enough, the movie was surprisingly good, no continuity problems, etc. and they pulled off a fairly decent climax, but man, then they sorta blew it with such a choppy epilogue! (as slashy and funny as the ending was)

Re:
Date: 2003-07-11 11:49 am (UTC)as for the flashy rescue, well, such a rescue almost demands the rescuer running off with the rescuee, and we wouldn't blame the girl for following after and roaming the wide blue oceans with them. :b
