srsly though the whole first part of this ep is deeply frightening
it's like any other story where something benign and beloved in daily life goes haywire
without seeming reason or warning
like air turning noxious or the angel statues in that one Doctor Who ep or the birds
in Hitchcock

there is Spock perched on the bridge as usual hopping about
with his clever black eyes

okay i gotta watch that then, i've watched The Cage, which is awesome if only because Spock is a shoujo heroine/tail-wagging puppy all over Pike. also BLESS their hearts they pretty clearly did things like call the dudes over at the costume drama next door and asked if they could borrow the set and some clothes.

The Menagerie is a direct sequel to The Cage, which they basically accomplish by... having Kirk and Spock watch TV. Production Cost Recouping 101. XD; It's really depressing though. Thank gawd it's pretty much nixed in Rebootverse (barring intervention by Spock Prime**), I tried to picture it happening and it would just be the biggest clusterangstfuck of all time. OF ALL TIME!

The contrast between Spock Then And Now is lolarious. Does Vulcan not have the concept of "inside voice", dude.
