My parents think Alan has gained weight in the week since he came home with me; possibly because he's been going through a big carton of milk every two days. His mood is good, although he's always demanding to be picked up in order to put his paws on this or that. It's also been easier to get him to sleep than ever before. His nightly routine is now the star field projector and a warm bottle of milk on my lap. Unlike the breast, the bottle is not an infinite supply, so when he finishes his nightcap he just... turns to his side, closes his eyes, and zonks out. I give him another 15 minutes and put him in his crib.

He actually still tries to suckle, if my shirt happens to make things accessible, but it's "just for fun" and he's content with cow's milk otherwise.

All the adults have been practicing walking with Alan. The goal is to "graduate" him to the bigger daycare room when the next new babies arrive in May or June (C and F have already moved up and been replaced by two 1 year olds, W and Z are already walking but are younger/smaller). He's in the big room a lot anyway, but whatever. As he improves he's been getting more enthusiastic about walking -- he didn't see the point before at all, but now he tries to go fast, throwing himself forward while hanging off one's hands. Still very cautious about crossing any distance between handholds.

New stuff:

* Can climb onto the bed by himself
* Sniffs to actively smell things
* Sometimes tries to wash himself in the bath
* Points to photos in books - I tell him the words though I don't know if it's what he wants, and anyway what's the point of me telling him it's a combine harvester when he's unlikely to see one IRL any time soon?
* Has discovered tea drawer, and cosmetics drawer - for throwing things on the ground
* Testing the limits of "bowl is for food" concept. How does Mom react if I put toys in the bowl with the food? What if I take the food out and put it on the tray or chair? Yesterday he wanted to eat puffs and not quiche, carefully removed squares of quiche from bowl and upended entire puffs container (mostly) into bowl
* Tries to eat with spoon, I help him so he doesn't get too frustrated and give up
* Really thought Patrick Wolf's "The Magic Position" was a bop, which, fair, it's basically a children's song
* Objects for shaking: maracas, cocktail shaker (empty), amoxicillin bottle
* Insists I read "Where's Spot" to him over and over! Success! Only, he doesn't understand linear narrative haha, it doesn't matter to him which page he's on as long as he can open the flaps
