I ended up skipping last week's baby diary. Alan and I had been recovering from our colds but by last Sunday we were sick again, and this time it was more serious for me. I ended up having to call my parents to pick him up from daycare last Tuesday, and he's been with my parents since, while I went on antibiotics for sinusitis and (probably) bronchitis. Worked from home for nearly a week, in order not to be the office germ reservoir. Still have some lingering symptoms, but now on the mend. So the "momcation" has started earlier and lasted longer than anticipated.

My mom thinks I should take the opportunity to wean Alan. Well, I still have a little milk even after a week, not that it's any good with the antibiotics and other cold meds (I learnt the hard way earlier that they won't refill a steroid nasal spray if you're still breastfeeding). But the breast is a crutch now, and he is after all 14 months old, which is a solid run. I'd seen last week that his first molars seemed to be coming in, and that was apparently the Victorians' test to wean. It would be good if he could develop a bedtime routine that didn't involve demanding the breast. Of course, his sleep has been very disrupted by my mom's reports, and it is again impossible to know whether it's because he's in a developmental fussy period or just away from his own bed and me. He's cheerful during the day, though, and I get sent a lot of cute videos of him clambering up and down my parents' carpeted stairs, or swinging his legs on the little wooden chair set from my sister's toddlerhood, or putting on a half pomelo peel as a hat (the first time I've seen him put on a hat voluntarily, to get a laugh... of course as the mature adult I am I put things on his head or mine to get him to laugh, all the time).

Still not standing unassisted, though, or talking. He can respond to some questions, like "Where's your head?" but I don't think he understands everything that's said.
