Baby diary: 42 weeks

petronia We've lost the past week to The Cold, pretty much, although as of last night I felt completely recovered, and Alan is still coughing. Took him to the clinic Monday but decided against a chest X-ray as his fever had gone.
Of course, he woke up during the night, and it was an effort to soothe him asleep again. I'm starting to get impatient with giving him the breast to put him to sleep, since it no longer goes as easily as before: he fights to keep eating, and if I try to rock him any other way he fights to get to the breast with his eyes closed. Finally I just dumped him back in his crib and closed the door. :P Luckily, he actually fell asleep within moments, instead of continuing to cry.
On the bright side, I turned on the heat (yes, was sick with sick baby in a cold house, at this time of year it's always a shock how fast the place goes from a heat sink to not) and Alan didn't immediately burn his hand on the baseboard radiators like I'd feared. Every day I'm thankful for engineering and design standards I hadn't needed to notice before, never having had small children or roaming pets.
Ending with teething news: Alan is working on #6. He has huge top front incisors and tiny bottom ones, like me, even with this baby set: it'll be braces to correct the snaggletooth problem eventually... At this age he likes hangs out with me to do everything, so when I brush my teeth I brush his teeth as well, and he's a champ about that.
Yesterday, he amused himself by opening a drawer, then dropping an empty toothpaste tube into the drawer, then checking to see if it was still there. Really cute, but not so much if he starts hiding things without my knowledge. XD; He also chews stuff other than me, of course: yesterday to my horror I realized he'd (over a matter of weeks) chewed apart enough of a virgin box of aluminum foil to get the foil roll out.
