Alan started daycare on Monday!

There are five kids in his "class," all December and January babies, but the only other one attending every day is C., the daughter of my colleague, who was due two weeks after me but ended up giving birth first. (Arrivals are staggered since none of us are back at work yet, so I've yet to bump into her mom. ^^;) C. seems quite equable and is already napping at daycare. I've also met W., the youngest and also a boy, who is definitely not fully used to things yet.

The first day we went by car with my parents, because it's only two hours a day this week and he had an appointment afterward. We left him with the teacher M., who is lovely, at 9:30am, then I showed my parents around the neighbourhood residential development. At 10... all the kids came out in carts pushed by their teachers, including Alan, who was wailing. ^^;;; I had to hide, but my parents went and took photos of him! He was definitely not dressed warmly enough the first day -- I'd forgotten how chilly the wind off the river can be around the office, even though the weather has been perfectly pleasant.

The following days I took him by bus. Usual morning routine, then I give him a bit more milk and put him into the carrier and carry the diaper bag as a backpack. Alan's never been on a bus before, and it seems to lull him; I think he actually enjoys sleeping on me during the commute. Drop-off is another story, as he's gradually clued in that being handed over to teacher means Mom will disappear for a couple of hours. I'm told he eats lunch readily, so he's not crying the entire time I'm gone. But it'll be a while before he manages to nap there.

When I talk to other women they always say they felt the separation very intensely at first, and I feel odd about the fact that I... don't (though I did when I sleep-trained him). I just feel very energized and relieved to have a structure to my day again. Today I bumped into my colleagues going for lunch as we were leaving and they all cooed over my baby. XD

Notes on medical appointments: A. dropped a weight curve but is still 99th percentile in height. Took him to get a Hep A travel vaccination but the flu shot won't be available until November so we'll have to take our chances. (And, ironically, although I was sure I'd gotten Hep A + B, the records show I don't have Hep A myself.)
