Baby diary: 34 weeks
Aug. 7th, 2019 06:46 amAlan had been kneeling up, so on Sunday we moved his crib mattress to the lower position. I thought he would be mad but he was delighted to get (from his POV) a proper pull-up bar setup. Sunday night he cried for me and when I went in I found he had pulled himself up to standing. :O
He can't sit down by himself, though, so he's been cautious about replicating his success.
I had previously decided that he was too young for the pool this summer, but he got very nice swim clothes in the last hand-me-down batch, and the playdate group suggested this big beautiful turquoise wading pool in Ville-Emard, so we went. I thought he might not like the cold water but he was happy to splash! So yesterday I took him to the neighbourhood pool where I usually go. The water is usually very shallow in the kiddie pool there but to my surprise it was quite high, enough that if Alan holds onto the top stair in the "pull to standing" position he can float his feet up and kick. I held him horizontal under his torso and let him paddle around. After that I changed him and we sat on a towel to get dry, and altogether it was a pleasant hour at the pool.
We were both very hungry afterward, with me ordering and scarfing down half a large pizza, and Alan eating half a packet of this readymade baby food that is basically a blended fajita (black beans/corn/tomato/squash/chicken/quinoa/cocoa/cilantro). I gave him some pizza crust (the soft fluffy white part), and he loved it. He's been eating corn puffs and rice crackers for babies which has taught him to shovel carbs into his mouth, but he seems to be able to chew and swallow all right.
A 7-year-old boy named Josef came over and made friends, and offered to let Alan ride in his yellow duckie float. Boys that age, like H., actually seem quite interested in and want to play with him. Whereas the girls always look at the stroller to see the baby, but never try to interact.
