Baby diary: 16 weeks 5 days
Apr. 8th, 2019 08:31 pm Alan must perforce roll, every time he's set down: he crosses his arms over his chest and bends backward into a bow and turns onto his side. From there he usually makes his way onto stomach and elbows, unless the terrain doesn't allow for it, and there he gets stuck, unable to go anywhere or free his arms up to play with his toys. If I leave him there he works himself up into a tantrum, and if I pick him up he makes a long string of disappointed complaining noises. So I try to give him a pep talk. XD;
The fact that he can turn onto his side by himself makes it easier to breastfeed him in bed, but it's worrisome that he sometimes turns and keeps sleeping that way, with his nose smushed into the sheets, or into me.
Other games he likes:
Maybe he is just a nerd.

Pre-4 month checkup last week. Alan continues to be 97th percentile in size. Both the doctor and the pharmacist made yikes faces when I confessed I used a bit of Betaderm every few days to control his eczema, so now I have a very weak prescription cortisone for babies. I use that two-three times a day, have stopped washing him so much, and slather him with Glaxal Base, on the advice of my upstairs neighbour. His face and arms are a lot less dry, but he still seems to itch at night; we're not out of the woods yet.
(Neighbour asked me what about having a baby in the house did I not expect - for her it was the number of minute-by-minute decisions she had to make, like whether or not to change her son's clothes, start lunch now or later, etc. - and I couldn't think of anything, because I'd tried not to have any expectations. But this is one: I didn't expect to expend so much effort on his skincare.)
I might try giving up dairy again, although it makes no sense to me - he doesn't have digestive issues - I haven't had any dairy in two days, and he's thrown up less and his skin is a bit better, though it could be coincidence.

Other games he likes:
- Being pulled up on my lap so he can rest his weight on his feet
- "Elevator" - I hold him in front of my chest, and drop three levels to a wide-legged goddess pose, then bring him back up
- "Blankie attack" - I throw the baby blanket on him, in such a way as to cover his face
- Sticking his hand into his own mouth in such a way as to make himself barf >_>
