Yesterday he "saw" a stuffed toy for the first time - he was looking right past them before. It's an orange/white/black tiger hand puppet, so probably it was the bright colours that did it. He's now very adequately amused by Hobbes the tiger draped over the edge of his bassinet, and Kon the lion (it's a Kon plushie, from Bleach), and his soft flannel giraffe rattle (I have to think of a name for the giraffe XD). On the downside, he's awake every 2 hours at night and wouldn't nap in the morning at all.
A joke - so goes the research I've heard - is just a shift in perspective that allows one to discover new information, or see the situation in a new light. All the babies I've known seem to find learning hilarious: not when they first see or hear a new thing (that's just confusing), but when they make sense of it.
