This is spoilery for Thor, I guess
Aug. 5th, 2011 06:20 pmCosmic cube-related meta aside, what I found disconcerting about this movie was that I spent most of it feeling sorry for Loki. XD; Like, it honestly never felt to me like Thor was in any real trouble - sure the CIA were on his ass, but he is an alien godlike being, come on. Basically he got sent to New Mexico to grow a sense of responsibility and find himself(tm). A lot of bros would put up with their dad cutting off their allowance if it meant they got to hang with Natalie Portman, you know?
Meanwhile Loki was actually getting shiz done. Not by what you might call aboveboard methods, but the weird thing is that there turned out NOT to be a mastermind plot to take over the throne. What you find out is that the initial thing (troll my obnoxious bro's party) totally got away from the dude... so HE WINGED IT. Aided by everyone else in the movie having zero ability to manipulate or spot manipulation.** So you're like... what did I just watch? A story about the neuroses of a sensitive high-strung person adopted into a family/environment where everyone else only has simple wholesome emotions and so deny the validity of his ~feelings~, including re: not telling him he was adopted? Shouldn't this be solved by a therapist rather than explodey special effects?
** "Mortals identify my bro with the god of lies and trickery, clearly I must take everything he says at face value"
EDIT -- and the other other thing was I kept thinking "that dude looks exactly like Asano Tadanobu". (It was Asano Tadanobu.)
EDIT2 -- "I'm sure Jotunheim is a real place, that was where the really big trolls were in the other movie."

Date: 2011-08-05 10:33 pm (UTC)The problem is that no one realized he needed a hug because everyone was too dumb to figure out he was instigating shiz until like 5 minutes before the end. And then Thor was like "uhh IDK how I pissed you off but blanket apology bro" and Loki was like *PUNCHES HIM IN THE FACE* and I was like, OK well that was... all he wanted out of this I think...
