No more avoiding spoilers
Jul. 3rd, 2011 02:45 amI have finally managed to finish watching the last two episodes of Doctor Who I had left! Guys, I am SO CONFUSED. First of all, yes I did stop for weeks in the middle of a two-parter. For some reason the accents in these eps completely defeated me: I could barely understand what ppl were saying, and everyone seemed to be having hysterical personality flip-flops to boot. I don't think the plot itself was off but I couldn't hold the pacing in my head. It felt like watching a movie while unable to parse film semiotics; no proper build, just "stuff happens, stuff happens, stuff happens". E07, which is much less linear on paper, suffered from this a lot less. But the ending was pretty o_O; Everyone was required to commit Acting, though, even characters one'd never met before, so I kind of felt like the day was carried on conviction.
* Like for instance, I totally bought that Eleven and Madame Vastra were old friends who could brainstorm together and call each other on BS. Even though WHERE DID THIS CHARACTER EVEN COME FROM? For that matter, can these ladies stick around for a while? Amy Pond did a real number on the Conan Doyle when she rebooted the 'verse.
* No explanation for why the warrior monk dudes are so hell-bent on killing the Doctor. Weren't they shipping River off to prison? Is that before or after which part of this?
* Who even is eyepatch lady?
* How did child Melody have happy photos of Amy and herself as a baby, as opposed to photos of Amy looking at the camera like "eat a dick and die"? XD;
* To add intertextuality to my mental garble, surely child Melody isn't baby Jane Eyre from the movie?!? Have I reached the point that all small children look the same?
* I do appreciate that Centurion!Rory takes over whenever shit gets real, though.

Date: 2011-07-04 04:53 am (UTC)I really didn't care that we had not seen the stories that Strax and Madame Vastra originated from, not every adventure is shown on screen. But I DO want to see more of our 2 lovely Victorian ladies! Vastra and Jenny are awesome! That has actually been the hallmark of this season for me - awesome episode guest characters: Vastra, Jenny, Strax, Canton, Idris/TARDIS.
