Doctor Who S06E01 (plus those two eps of the Sarah Jane Adventures, sob)

Puella Magi Madoka Magica E01-08

I plowed right into it without putting away the Dorothy Dunnett mental toolkit, so, well. XD Let's all discuss etc.

There was a distinct point in Madoka where I actually felt dumb/stupid. As in, I straight-up was at a loss for words to describe what was going on, what it meant, and why. Well, and where exactly this thing fell on the spectrum.

...then really decided to stop thinking, just watch, and, well, leave the thinking to people who have much better backgrounds in the humanities and film than I do.

Which is to say, you discuss first, I'll chime in as I can!

I think this entry says it best:

There's a turning point around episode 8. That's when Harumi has that talk with Madoka on the park bench where she tells her to stop thinking about throwing her life away (via becoming a Magical Grl) just because she feels like her life doesn't have enough value. Her present life has value! I thought maybe the show was going to go on to make a point about depressive thinking and how it is a distortion of reality, even though it
understands some things that are true (like the power of the patriarchy to crush girls' dreams, the eventual heat death of the universe, etc.) The show went on to make a somewhat different point, though. I guess what I am saying is you should watch the last four episodes (echoing canis).
