Got an email from Chinese addy:

"i brought your nano4 and there are a lot of songs in it, i like them very much so i want to backup

so i need your password thank you" [sic]

Either this is particularly pointed spam (doesn't seem like it) or they are talking about the Nano stolen with my purse and passport in October, in which case my Apple account password (hahahaha no) will do them not a whit of good as most of that stuff came off Beatport!

EDIT - they have emailed me back informing me it is orange. (Since I named it Schuldig I suppose it's fitting that it should have been docile for years only to suddenly vanish in a nightclub. The current iPod Touch is named Sherlock; I guess I should take extra care not to drop it in the bathtub.)

This has actually happened to me so I know: if you try to back up a protected file that someone else purchased off iTunes, it will check the purchase against the iTunes account in question and pop up a username/password with the email address already filled in.

Yeah, a friend of mine dumped a bunch of music from his ipod onto my computer years back and the same thing happened. A few of the songs had been purchased through iTunes and it kindly asked me for his password.

I am convinced the 'bought your nano' bit is disingenuous bollocks (unless they are just that clueless, which...oO). I am also deeply uneasy knowing they now have your email address. Since you have their email address now, mightn't you file a report with Shanghai authority? Is that possible from Canada?

It got even better (more rude) than this, idk if I want to bother making another post though? XD I don't think this guy is the thief, from his Internet history he's a nerd who's into electronic gadgets. Think combination poor English skills and ass burgers is more likely really. With his email I found his photo, birthdate, age, approximate home location and former high school, which is more that he has on me from mine.

In this country we have markets selling cheap gadgets, most of them knockoffs, but many of the branded things we suspect are harvested through purse snatching. Come to think of it, Brixton Market had a bunch too. It's international! =_=
