petronia: (so not awake yet)

Was sick yesterday - sore throat, probable low-grade fever, general sensation of limp noodledom. But it wasn't an actual cold: I feel much better after lying on the couch for 20 hours straight. XD; Perhaps this was just the body's way of informing me I was overdoing it. Have begged off Igloofest and two parties this weekend, although I think I'll still make the brownies I was planning to bring.

Actually, in that time I got a lot of laundry done. XD; I also made coconut lemon chicken soup and fettucine alla carbonara (today) - this actually turned out perfectly! The egg didn't go gritty or anything! And the cleanup was gratifyingly easy as I added a chopped green pepper which deglazed the bacon fat skillet neatly. Now I can give myself indigestion without paying an Italian restaurant for the pleasure, awesome~~~

BROTHS (all ingredients essentially to taste, purpose being to make a base to simmer stuff in):

Coconut lemon thai: 2 cups water, 1 can coconut milk, juice/zest of 1 lemon (1/2 would have sufficed IMO), 2 kaffir lime leaves, ginger if you've got any, 1 tbsp shrimp paste, 1 tbsp light syrup, 2 tsp sugar, 1 tsp curry powder, chicken stock concentrate, salt/pepper

Italian tomato: 3 cups water, 2 tbsp tomato paste, 1 bay leaf, 1 tbsp olive oil, chicken stock concentrate, salt/pepper

Egg drop: 3 cups water, chicken stock concentrate, soy sauce, 1 tbsp sesame seed oil, 3 tbsp cornstarch dissolved in cold water, 1/2 cup frozen peas, 2 eggs beaten w/ a bit of water and drizzled in

Haaaaa.

While lying on the couch I also watched a lot of classic Doctor Who - eight hours of whatever exists on Youtube, basically. Under these circumstances you don't want anything as taxing as Torchwood. XD;;

MY THOUGHTS:

* UNIT dudes are kinda unexpectedly attractive

* There is almost NO MUSIC - bliss - and what there is, is eerie early synth woooeeeooooeee

* I bet I could stream The Knife's experimental Darwin opera** right under one of these eps and it would sound perfect

* Anyway did you see that one where Karin Dreijer Andersson accepted an award dressed up as Lady Gaga with her face melted off

* The outfits are so awesome! Srsly the outfits are so awesome. New series makes me feel gypped with its jeans and hoodies. And then the next girl dares to wear a miniskirt with opaque tights (i.e. what I wear in winter because it's COMFORTABLE) and ppl complain, oh diaf srsly

* For reals I am watching this shiz just for the outfits

* Is the Master in like all of these or is that just what ppl are interested in upping to YTube? Nnn so far quality of story arc has been directly proportional to coherency of the Master's ebil plan (and the cutoff is not that high is all I'm saying)

* The Fifth Doctor is kind of unnervingly the same person as the Tenth Doctor? I mean, he isn't, cos the Tenth Doctor is on cocaine or smth in comparison, but they have all these fleeting tics in common... ACTING: creepy bzns amirite

* OTOH Third Doctor = ttly different dude

* Fourth Doctor = I can't even pay attention to what you're saying, but by all means talk moar

* Imma stop here, insert yr own Matrix joke

[livejournal.com profile] dipping_sauce gets the entire credit for the idea. XD

It's only 4 1/2" in diameter! For the record though they hold together quite well even when cut into quarters.

Pi pie!

David Tennant grew up on 4th and 5th Doctor, so yeah, that channeling was deliberate. (and then the Doctor's Daughter ep, the daughter was played by Peter 5th Davison, so it all goes around again?)

The Master is what people up on YouTube, I guess, but I wish it were Dalek eps, Daleks are cuter.

The Fifth Doctor is kind of unnervingly the same person as the Tenth Doctor

Totally, DT is self-proclaimed Five fanboy, that's why they had to meet up in the Children in Need whatsit. Not complaining here as Five was my first crush as well. XDD

Romana II (the blond one) = BEST. CLOTHES.

Dalek fanvids = the only good fanvids

fffff DT is such a stan; props to his effort toward actual character continuity however XDD the NuWho makers are a study in varying flavours of recondite fanboyism

Still haven't gotten hold of any Romana eps! There must be some though. If not I'll resort to bittorrent :|

For Romana, try "The City of Death" - written by Douglas Adams. (He wrote that serial and "Shada"...and then turned bits of both of them into Dirk Gently.)

MY Doctor is the Fourth, hands down! Those were the episodes showing on PBS in the mid-80s when I was growing up! I wonder if there is some sort of massive personality difference between people who are specific fans of the various "Doctors"...or just a massive age difference.

Another favorite Fourth episode was Image of the Fendahl, which was sort of Lovecraft-meets-Who, plus some really silly giant rubber monsters.

Not the latter, as I watched Three through Seven (not necessarily in order) when I was growing up in the '80s and was still quite vapid enough to like Five best.

all these titles are like "____ of the ____"

As a Douglas Adams fan of long standing watching this stuff feels like turning one's head to look directly at something that's been flickering on the edge of one's vision forever. XD;;

Most ppl seem to assume it's age, or order of exposure... It seems like JoJo to me, if that makes sense? Like the fun of difference is the flip side of the pleasure of commonality. XD My guess is which companions one likes sez a lot about one, though.

Actually come to think of it you will probably be more impressed with others' outfits since you have better taste but Romana II had this (http://uktv.co.uk/images/standarditem/EX1/2768.jpg)

Plus at one point there was an actual schoolgirl uniform ハァハァ /creepy

Glad to hear you're feeling better! Best to be in good shape for carbonara-induced indigestion. ^_^

Tasty stuff! The only problem with talking and looking at food is that I have a tendency to feel hungry even though I know I'm not!
