Clothing swap loot
Sep. 7th, 2009 04:33 amFinal clothing swap tally:
1 x maroon pinstripe suit (jacket, skirt) + 1 x maroon silk shirt from Fairyesque. I've built up enough of a collection that I feel like I really ought to buy something, particularly since I've worn my Fairyesque items from last swap into the ground (the long pink flannel lace skirt and the vegetable print circle skirt, both of which are extremely well-made). ...When I have money. Also to be perfectly honest I'm not sure N. is making new collections anymore, I'd have to ask. HMM AWKWARD
2 x plaid minidresses (black/white mod sheath w/ straight pleat skirt, blue/green/red tube + buckles).
1 x plaid miniskirt (grey/red) - this one has some funny buckle/tie/zipper detailing and several fine minds took ages figuring out how it was to be worn - it also has a working pocket.
Pointy maroon suede boots, v. worn but whatev, meant to be a replacement anyway for the pleather boots that I bought in China and that fell apart after two seasons of heavy wear.
Violet suede round-toe mary jane wedges, nearly flawless. Meant to be a replacement for the black ones I busted the straps on, natch.
1 x wraparound belt - basically, a broad rectangular piece of stiff padded fabric with silk-screened decoration. I think it's a belt? It may be an avant-garde stole. Sort of the redux of the orange origami accordion belt from last swap that is the single weirdest accessory I own, and therefore the most useful as it makes every outfit look arty. Time to learn to tie an obi knot!
Number of items of unknown provenance: 3/9 (counting the black/white dress which is from a high-street shop of no great mystery)
Other recent-ish acquisitions:
4 pairs of tights - 2 x black lace, 1 x mustard yellow, 1 x grey/yellow tartan (sororial unit's souvenir gift from SCOTLAND lol; she complains I wear too much tartan, I explain that I do not do hipster grunge plaid which is A WHOLE NOTHER BALLGAME).
1 x teal cotton jersey scarf - bought for 5$ because I was cold and it matched my Brazil skirt. Never saw the point of these jersey scarves until I realized you can also wear them as belts. YES I KNOW IF ONLY I PAID MORE ATTENTION TO WHAT AMERICAN APPAREL TELLS ME.
Beige oxfords on 50% sale from Urban Outfitters (these). Stiff construction, not leather, but very wearable. I went walking in them for hours and felt fine, although by the end I was strongly reminded that I take Ws and these are not W. This is literally the first time I have ever bought anything from Urban Outfitters; I always look, but have no idea how to wear that unstructured faded earth-tone boho nonsense. That OVERPRICED unstructured faded earth-tone boho nonsense.
Black and white high top Reebok Classics with pink/yellow fasteners. I've tried these with tights but tbh they only go with jeans. D:
Going back a bit, the grey-green knit minidress I bought while shopping with
sub_divided, that I have worn several times since and am very pleased with; and this sort of faux-Burberry long-sleeved baby doll dress in a fabric one would more readily associate with upholstery, which I have not worn yet because it's not cold enough. Basically I am mired in the 60s. Also PO'd at the girl in the Telus metro ads for biting my look.
For the record, everything listed in this post cost me a grand total of ~$150. Canadian.
...By the way, guys, did you all just... forget to tell me there was a Mugen no Juunin anime... carry on then!

Date: 2009-09-07 06:46 pm (UTC)The going rate on nice summer dresses was an economy-busting $20 for a while here, though prices have recovered with fall. XD The Reeboks were $30 and the oxfords $40.
